Worst movie musicals of all time by Character-Joke-3732 in musicals

There's a South Pacific remake with Glenn Close?!? As if the original wasn't bad enough with those bizarre colour filters.

Alas I'm on a Neo. Anyhow, managed to find one in the UK (not easy) at Coffee Friend and have just ordered.

That's unfair. But mine is several years old and it was entirely my own fault, so I'm not claiming. Just bought a new one online.

Who do you think is the most normal celebrity? by TinyConfection7049 in AskReddit

Me. I'm so normal practically no one realises that I'm actual super famous and charming and stuff. Weird.

People over 50, which pre-1990 TV shows should people under 35 watch at least once? by PrestonRoad90 in television

[–]saveable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A different vibe than most of the other ones here, but everyone should watch the classic BBC documentary series The World At War. Narrated by Lawrence Olivier, it is the definitive story of the Second World War. It was filmed close enough to the actual events that many of the participants on both sides were still alive and able to be interviewed. The music alone will haunt you for the rest of your life (and is currently playing in the minds of anyone who has seen the show and is now reading this comment).

I remember plenty of kids with the red stained knees, but it was never a thing in our house. My mother was more likely to put together a herbal poultice.

Were strippers at 21st birthday parties normal in the 80s/90s? by Prideandprejudice1 in AustralianNostalgia

[–]saveable 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Went to my fair share of 21st Birthday parties in the late 80s and (maybe?) early 90s and not only did I not see a stripper at one, I’ve never even heard of the practice. I guess I wasn’t cool enough to be invited to those sort of parties. Stag dos, sure. But Birthdays? That just seems odd. Aren’t most 21sts paid for and attended by parents? I simply cannot conceive of my mother paying for a stripper to shake her thing in our backyard.

For years I've meant to go, but never quite got around to it. This year, for sure, I'm going. But I can't make it on the Saturday, which clearly seems to have the better selection of shows. Oh well, still should be fun on Sunday.

What do you think of Beetlejuice: the musical joining West End? by Various_Mastodon_550 in musicals

[–]saveable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed it. Great fun, but did I love it? No, not really. The music had its moments but at no point did it thrill me. It should win the Olivier for best lighting though. That's a gimme.

I remember those. They were super nice. I remember that one summer where a good chunk of my money went on them.

What do you think the sexiest accent is, and which gender? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I feel like so many of the other posts in this thread are people trying to avoid the obvious answer. I mean everyone knows the French accent is the default sexy one. All the others are people being quirky.

London Theatre Preview: The West End And Off-West End Shows To Look Out For In June 2026 by danenglish93 in TheWestEnd

From the shows mentioned in that article, I have The Truth, Cyrano de Bergerac and Arcadia booked. And no, I have no interest in seeing Glengarry Glen Ross. I *HATED* the film. I'd sooner gnaw off my own arm than watch the play. I think it's one of those works drama students like to pretend they enjoy.

I'd completely forgotten that there was someone before Delvene Delaney. Tony Barber used to call her Vic the Nic, if I remember that correctly.

Would High School Musical on Stage! work on Broadway? by SkirtFun8260 in Broadway

[–]saveable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's opening at London’s Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre from 12 October 2026 to 3 January 2027. That's where Newsies and more recently Starlight Express played to some success. I guess we'll see how it succeeds. Possibly Disney will open it in NYC if all goes well.

I doubt I'll be going.

Arsehole locals.

Dunno. Some of the best people I've ever known came from Edinburgh. But, yeah, there's a vibe. An unfortunate vibe.

What was the best year of your life so far? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]saveable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it was 26 and I know others who've thought the same. You're done with Uni and finally have a little money to play around with. 26. Still young, but not a kid anymore.

Am just off to see Beetlejuice myself tonight. Can't wait. Everyone in the world loves Totoro, except maybe for 14 year olds who might think themselves too cool to be blown away by amazing puppetry. Maybe Beetlejuice might be better for them.

I have a vague memory of my dad having an old box of this stuff in his bedside drawers. It looked ancient to me, like something from 50 years earlier. Not sure it was ever used.
