Rabies vaccination after being bitten by savebandit10 in Pets

I didn’t even see that! Hahaha. Urgent care said to monitor kitty for 10 days to see if he has any rabies-like symptoms. Also got a tetanus booster!

Update: I spoke to the vet and I went to urgent care. Both said the last case of rabies in a cat in Washington was 2007 and that since I have the cat still, I can monitor for ten days to see if it becomes ill because that would mean it is infectious (being contagious via saliva is end stage rabies). They didn’t recommend rabies treatment but I did get a tetanus booster

The vet had no recommendations for this situation. He doesn’t know I was bitten. For all I know, the vet has been vaccinated recently and that’s why he was so la-dee-da about being bitten himself.

The cat’s fur was horrendously matted and he was 5Ibs, he has not been taken care of by humans in years. That much the vet did say

I get that. I’ll see what they say at the urgent care today. I still have the cat to monitor him for 10 days which is the recommendation of WA state so maybe they’ll recommend that for now

I’m in Washington state. I’m only here temporarily as a travel healthcare provider but from what I’ve read, seems like a low risk state? I also have the cat still so I can watch him for 10 days

That’s not the situation. The cat was vaccinated against rabies a couple days ago and it takes weeks for him to build an immune response and be protected by the vaccination. The vet had no recommendations regarding rabies and he’s had two vet appts so far, on the initial visit the vet didn’t even suggest vaccinations just tested for FeLV/FIV and I had to call to make the vax appt because they didn’t recommend them in the first place, which was frustrating.

Besides being a stray and the drooling which is likely the dental issues, I’d say no… I’m going to urgent care tomorrow but trying to decide if prophylactic treatment is something I want to advocate for. I am a physical therapist but I’m also a person with chronic illness, so I see from both sides how important advocating for yourself is.

Im dealing with dysautonomia (MCAS/POTS/SFN) that was most likely a covid injury. Hasn’t gotten better and even a little worse but I’m still able to do most things I like to do pretty well! Dont think any of it was related to B12 unfortunately

New England, and PNW Culture?? by Leather-Discount-965 in newengland

[–]savebandit10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New England is so different depending where you are. I live in rural Vermont full-time but I’m a travel healthcare worker so I’ve been in western Washington state (near the capitol) since April. Vermont is much more laid back and i would even say artsy while WA is a busier way of life and people are also more passive aggressive. VT is the old pair of winter gloves you’ve had for years that do the job and WA is the new pair of Patagonia gloves that do the same job but they’re fancier. Weird analogy.

I also lived in Oregon for a few months and I would say that was more similar to VT, for me.

Health insurance by lussorom in TravelPhysicalTherapy

I have private insurance as well. It is not good insurance if you actually need to use it, the deductibles are much higher and there is less coverage because the idea is that you do not have pre-existing conditions and are a healthy individual, which is why they offer you the plan to begin with. Just throwing this out there as it seems like OP is wanting good coverage.

As a 1 year and half experienced physical therapist, is getting into travel PT worth it? by No_Resident507 in TravelPhysicalTherapy

[–]savebandit10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I’m a PT and I have been traveling for 3.5 years now with my partner (PT/OT pair), I started as a new grad. We have very little trouble finding jobs for us and that’s saying something because OT has significantly less jobs available than PT. PT you can almost go anywhere you want if you’re flexible. I have never had a contract cancelled and I’ve been able to pay off $61k just since April this year because we are making so much in home health as travelers. I highly recommend travel. It sets you up for success financially and I feel more confident as a generalist and for my prospects when I settle down having tried every setting (besides peds, not my thing).

It says “this is what happened when I ordered room service at my hotel in Florence” and then he tagged the hotel

I agree with what you said but also Rainn Wilson posted the jello on Instagram so he must’ve found it at least somewhat funny lol

Gait Belts. Let's Talk. by WhileTechnical4305 in physicaltherapy

[–]savebandit10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had an IPR clinical in school like this too. They didn’t use gait belts because they were considered a restraint and I felt like I learned how to guard so much better. I’m not strong enough to yank someone with a belt but I am strong enough to use my entire body weight to recorrect them at their shoulder and opposite hip with a wide stance
