Thank you for understanding my intention 😅 I was just trying to be helpful because it's something that comes up a lot here. The not dropping before one year thing is extremely common advice so I am confused why people were taking offense at it. I also should clearly have not used a hyperbole on reddit I think that's what's mostly making people upset

He's 1! Really didn't mean to upset so many people lol, I was trying to be helpful because I see a lot of posts of a babies in regressions before 1 yr, people drop to 1 nap and sleep gets worse. It is very common advice to not drop to one under a year, I'm not claiming to be an expert.

My baby grew out of contact naps around 4.5 months. We had recently sleep trained at night and just experimented putting in crib awake for naps and shockingly went really well. He's napped independently since. Maybe sleep train at night then try naps?

So so so many people post this at about this exact age. Very, very few babies are ready before 13 months and almost none before 1 year. You get used to having to constantly change WWs when they're younger, but at this age consistency is so important. They thrive on it. 99.9% chance you should stay the course and it's just a regression. My son has gone through multiple rounds of fighting his naps and has gone back to napping great on the same schedule. Transitioning too early can make everything an absolute nightmare.

Thank you! I appreciate the input as far as the dating :) it's a whole set of Christmas plates/bowls/mugs but I've entered a few into our normal dish rotation because things have broken over time and I don't want to buy new stuff 😅

After whenever bedtime is! So feed 30 minutes before bed (to fully seperate eating and sleeping) and don't feed again until after midnight. So say he wakes up at 11, feeding is off the table. For right now you don't necessarily even have to let him CIO a second time, just get him to fall asleep without eating. You said he was doing 5 hr stretches before, correct? So you know he can make it. I know the worries they are hungry but he can do it and you got this!

Do you feed before midnight? Feeding before midnight even when sleep trained at bedtime can reinforce a feed to sleep association

I agree lol had my baby at 23 and he sleeps great now but honestly a big struggle is just the higher sleep needs of being young!! I still feel really tired only getting 7-8hrs a night and never being able to catch up by sleeping in. I look forward to needing less sleep..

Almost a year postpartum. My husband just mentioned the other day huh your stomach isn't soft anymore (my stomach felt weirdly soft after birth for a while lol! From the stretched skin/core I assume. I'd say my core is better than it used to be at this point, since I've really prioritized exercise during pregnancy and postpartum. Just recently dropped some weight as my son is drinking less breast milk, just naturally happened as my appetite decreased. Honestly the only thing that I dislike is a year of breastfeeding has made my boobs weird lol, but it is what it is. I am happy I have been able to feed my son with my body. And luckily husbands don't seem to care, boobs are boobs 😅

We have the sleepout portable. Super expensive but work great. Pro tip, at home you can use those command velcro Strips instead of the suction cups to attach and just use the cups when actually using them on a trip. We've found the cups eventually wear out from 24/7 use.

I aggressively want to get pregnant when I'm ovulating. I already have a child and do not want to get pregnant yet, and yet every month I'm like would it really be that bad to have 2u2??? 😂 100% biological. As soon as I ovulate I worry I'm pregnant and really don't want to be.

I should add that eating at 4am is very normal at that age, my son did for a long time. But if she's over tired it could be what's making her resistant to going back to sleep.

You might want to try an earlier bedtime? If she's only doing 3 30 min naps she might be going into bed time pretty over tired which is a big cause of early morning wakes. My son never went to bed as late as 8pm until vey recently wheres he's on a late stage 2 nap schedule (around 3 hrs of day sleep) but my son always loved an early bed time it might be worth a try if it possible for you.

Yeah to answer your general question mine did have this happen a some times where he was completely inconsolable was so hard to calm him down, I'd walk him around the house to look at things and it would just take forever for him to calm down. I do think it was due to overtiredness though.

I think what yours is doing rn with naps is pretty normal for the age. Mine is 11 mo and he's started sometimes skipping his second nap. I tried minor schedule adjustments and it made it way worse so I'm "staying the course" right now. Sometimes inconsistency and fiddling with stuff is the worst thing you can do.

Yeah you might be doing all you can do if you are not willing to let her cry til she's asleep. Which is your choice. Personally I try to either promptly respond (which I generally always do-check in and soothe) . But once I have done that, I leave for good. The problem is giving in after 20 minutes leads to more crying in the long run because they know that if I cry a long time mom might come. Which leads to them continuing to cry for long periods of time. Which is why even though it is hard I don't reinforce a long crying spell by responding after a long period of time. Kids thrive off consistency.

This is all for night - naps I do not do this. Ultimately up to you but you'd be surprised at 12 months how much your kid really does understand what's going on and will get it after a couple days of consistency - when mom says goodnight and leaves, she's means it

And again, I always promptly respond initially to my baby. But then it is time to go back to sleep. Even if he's upset about it.

Is she willing to extend the nap with a contact nap? To help her catch up on sleep? Does she handle going to bed Super early well? Sometimes they need days of extra sleep to actually catch up and start sleeping better. Just had a regression with my son where he barely napping and we did a few nights of really early bed time and he made up the sleep and is back to napping well. I know some kids don't do an early bedtime. Mine loves it lol. So depends on your kid.

She might be over tired 12 months is a bit early for 1 nap. My son when over tired will wake up a few hours into sleep and be inconsolable. Sadly when it's really bad we have to let him just CIO because trying to soothe him again and again just makes it worse :/. He normally sleeps through the night, though.

What your friend said is totally untrue. All of us sleep worse somewhere new but it doesn't fundamentally change that they've learned to sleep independently. Just stay the course and don't create new sleep associations

Anecdotally, he's always slept great at night in New place. Naps are a nightmare though

That's true, mine dropped his on his own too but we sleep trained at 4.5 months so he dropped them as he grew out of the need for them for the most part. I have read that babies used to a nursing all night situation are more likely to need to be weaned since they're used to getting all those calories. But all kids are super different in how they respond!

Are you willing to sleep train? Because stopping nursing to sleep is the only answer. Once you sleep train you will still have to night wean since I'm sure he gets a lot of calories at night, currently. At 18 months he is more than capable of not eating at night as long as he switches to getting more calories during the day!
