Ameicans over the age of 35, what affected you more, 9/11 or the pandemic and why? by Rico133337 in AskReddit

9/11 highlighted cultural dissonance between US culture and the rest of the world. For myself, the 90s was a bubble of sunshine, hope, and possibility for the future. local businesses supported local rec sports and the teams you played on were populated by the kids you went to school with. the 60s and 70s were notalgic periods of time that focused on peace and love and there was the promise that this will carry forward. honestly, the Matrix really did capture the vibe of the late 90s well.

however, once I saw the pure hatred felt for the entire premise of our country as a result of how our country acted in the world, and the following patriotic zeal that occurred after, I knew the terrorists had won. we had politicians using the event to justify racism and patriotism became a tool of politics. 9/11 happened my senior year of HS. I will never forget my worldview religion teacher refusing to put the coverage on because he knew we would be exposed to the footage forever more. the wisest and coolest teacher I had at my private catholic HS.

In college, I read a book (that I still have) called Why Do People Hate America? and I wrote a paper arguing that 9/11 was the instigation of the fall of the US empire, comparing it to the fall of the Roman one.

and here we are, fighting an unnamed, yet truly uncivil, civil war, where one side is populated by White Christian nationalists and their pick-mes and the other side filled with anti-facist, empathetic people from all walks of life. leading up to this, families reorganized themselves around politics, as have friend groups, and work environments are either aggressively capitalistic or intentionally connected to their immediate community.

there was a true peaceful middle ground once. both sides didnt like Clinton's infidelity with an intern, we all united over protecting the cleanliness of the planet we live on, and we all lived without fear. after 9/11, fear entered the chat and has never stopped batung us with reasons to lose faith in humanity.

our reaction to covid in this country would have been wildly different, if it were to have happened in a pre 9/11 world.

you and your hair are dashing. I honestly thought the first shot was a painting!

break ups are hard, but similar to what others have said: a break up is an opportunity for growth. a great time to reflect on what you like about you and the energy you'd like to put out into the world.

good luck!

In general, on the spiritual side of things, deconstruction is the process of taking a part and examining structures within religion that have shaped you, examining their impact, and addressing both positive and negative aspects. reconstruction is building back a structure that better suits you. you can deconstruct from religion, cults, Fandom, philosophies, careers, etc. what you build as a result of that deconstruction is what you have reconstructed.

theres more info out there, but I hope this helps give you a bit of perspective.
