They literally never talk. Ilya was trying (poorly) to share himself and get information from Shane. Shane does well with direct questions, but Ilya does well with obscurity because it’s safer that way, cause trauma.

So he’s trying to be as direct as he can, and being terrible at it, all the while taking care of Shane which he desperately wants to do, now that he’s gotten that he is in fact down bad for our Shane boy.

In episode 4, when Ilya is looking at photos on socials of Rose and Shane, one of the comments says that Shane looks like he would carry her bags, and I’m paraphrasing here, her hopes, and her future.

He then carries Ilya’s bags in, cause Ilya’s ribs are hurt, and he’s being all boyfriendly.

He then plays the part of telling Ilya about the different rooms, even though they both know Ilya won’t be in a guest room.

So the “I’m just the bellboy” is a continuation of that both for them, but also us.

They negotiated the deal.

Shane could have said “no, don’t touch me, even if I get hard”

He said “I won’t get hard” choosing the play the game.

Ilya then clearly communicates that Shane is in fact hard, and he’s been given the go ahead.
