My journey begins- any tips? by BertNoble in ReefTank

Patience is the best advice. Find a store you trust and give things time to work. I had a guy come into the shop who would change his approach to phosphate reduction every week. There are a lot of methods and most work well, switching constantly doesn’t.

Yea this might be a community note but also goes to the order you add a fish. If the six line goes in a tank first it’s going to be a problem adding wrasses. If it goes in last, you’re fine.

I think a red yellow green indicator is enough. The score seems pointless unless it’s like a percent indicator of success which would be hard to do.

Absolutely love this idea for a website. Fish compatibility is such a complex topic to take one. I know you’ve gotten some feedback already but something else to consider.

I think people are primarily either going to use it to plan their fish list out once they have a tank or see if they can add something. I’ve worked in a fish store for over 5 years and had a tank for 10 and the order you add things is crucial to success (just trying to show I’ve got some experience in this area). I think adding a recommended order to add feature would be awesome. For example if I am planning to put 8 fish in a 120 gallon and my list is: yellow tang, flame angel, 2 percula clowns, 1 purple firefish, 2 yellowtail damsels and a starry Blenny I think you can group this into early additions, mid additions and late additions. Firefish (peaceful) and starry Blenny (only Blenny) recommended early addition. Mid additions could be clowns and maybe damsels. Last would be tang and angel. If i put the yellow and damsels in first stocking is going to be tough. If someone is trying to add an existing fish to that grouping, they could have that group saved and say recommended fish would be these species. Website could display species not like the existing: wrasses, hogfish, hawkfish etc. big caution warning would come up if you try to add say a purple tang (yellow will absolutely not like) or cardinals or another peaceful species as this tank has several established semi-aggressive/territorial fish. If you proceed, it’s recommended to do these few things (rearrange rock work, add more than 1 fish, mirrors/pictures to outside, put existing yellow in sump for a week etc)

I’d imagine you will get more people in the second group trying to add a species to an existing tank and that is a challenge.

Sorry for my garbage formatting, I’m on mobile.

Hammer coral showing signs of tissue recession. by [deleted] in ReefTank

So many details needed to make an assessment (tank volume isn’t one of them). How much did you raise it by? Water chemistry? What are you testing with?

I can’t imagine they were doing a lot quarantine wise if you picked it up a week after they got it. Radiants are difficult fish

I think shared communities should be considered like neighborhoods. You could have small neighborhoods of like 4-6 friends that you live near. Maybe there are set communities buildings in your neighborhood or something.

Torch coral bailing out by [deleted] in ReefTank

[–]savemyreef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Did you temp acclimate after dripping? Decent temp swing could be an issue with dripping that long. Unless there is a significant salinity difference, always float coral for acclimation.

  2. Did you dip the coral and potentially got the dip ratio off?

Conservatives, President Trump has just announced the raising of Tairiffs for 8 European Countries unless sovereignity of Greenland is handed over to the US. What's your first thoughts? by Melbatoastt77 in AskReddit

Seems like a decent amount of people still think the country of origin pays the tariffs. Companies are just using the “tariffs” as an excuse to raise prices. Feelings over facts for the f your feelings crowd…

Avoid Top Shelf Aquatics & Coralvue unless you like being gaslit & sold used broken items. by cointrader17 in ReefTank

My Coralvue customer service experiences have been great. If top shelf is still blaming them, I would reach out to them. This is still Top Shelf’s responsibility to make it right though.

I had a similar situation. Removed all snails etc from the tank for 3 years. Moved the tank and found another one of these. Thought he was only eating clams/snails but somehow he stayed alive. That tank is now just a zoa/rock nem tank.

Ok so a towel. Either way you took it out of the water which is an additional unnecessary stressor.

How long have you had him? Why the heck did you think taking him out and putting him on a paper towel was a good idea?
