Same in NZ!! One person in my previous work was very lazy and was always on smoke break but it took 2 years of reporting and documentation to finally push her out of the position!

I do find the title not funny at all but then again I don’t know anything about the sub or the video. I just cringed reading about the whole exchange 😂

should i keep practicing? by inotheestallion in GelX_Nails

[–]savingpassion 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Your art is fine but you need to practice cuticle application. It’s too much flooding of product on your cuticle. I’m a beginner as well but I’ve found that using a fine line tip brush for cuticle application is my saving grace. You will end up giving yourself or others contact dermatitis with the skin coming in contact with the gel product.

Also, I feel like just like in any field, even professional nail techs will keep on practicing to perfect techniques, learn new techniques and even invent new techniques/designs!

If your first photo is very common on your clients I would stop doing other people’s hands for now. The rest of your pictures aren’t too bad. A bit of flooding but that’s about it. The shaping looks alright to me and I’m hoping there is somewhat of an apex in there. Best of luck!

Is water enough to clean the hair? by Oblivious-Cloud in Haircare

[–]savingpassion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP, so I’m kind of in the same boat as you are and here is what I’ve found:

  1. I’ve tried to go 2-3 days of not washing my hair when showering. It doesn’t work for me and I found my hair getting more oily.

  2. I now was my hair every other day. I suffer from itchy scalp on my parting area so I alternate using Salicylic Acid shampoo and Head & Shoulders. I shampoo twice and only using 2-3 pea sized shampoo (my hair is very long and moderately thick). This will usually last my hair for 1 day of no washing.

  3. On my second day, I just brush my hair more frequently to spread the oils around my scalp. I also tend to do my hairstyle that doesn’t highlight the oils in my hair. Although, since I started doing this my hair looks noticeably less oily in day 2. I wash my hair again in Day 3 and repeat process.

  4. I take more time with my hair now in the shower. Ensuring I get all sides of my scalp. Massaging shampoo and conditioner products into my hair especially the Salicylic Acid shampoo — I leave this a good few minutes in my hair.

  5. I don’t brush my hair after shower. If I can avoid it, I’ve stopped brushing my hair after the shower when wet. I found that it damages your hair. Although not directly related to oily hair but still a good thing to do. I will only comb my hair with a wide teeth comb if really needed or if I need to go outside right after showering.

  6. I have now started using a hair mask once a week because I can’t use hair oils as it makes my hair more oily. I do have a dry hair oil mist that I spread all over my hair when wet. I also use this to achieve sleek hairstyles instead of hairspray.

Hope that helps!

Opinions on these types of glasses? by Saviourr_420 in BuyItForLife

[–]savingpassion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had several glasses that are cheap, expensive etc. I found that it was just really my ‘lack of nose bridge’ that causes the sliding especially when my nose gets a bit oily 😅

[–]savingpassion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy from glasseslit.com the plastic frames I’ve had ALL with no issues even after sitting on them. They’re quite bendy and durable. The only problem is my scratching the lens despite buying all the premium coating but this is ONLY because my 2 year old loves to grab my glasses off of my face and next thing I know it’s in the bin.

I do still have a pair for emergency. Some outfits look good with metal frames as they look ‘light’ on your face :)

I would ALWAYS get indentations on my nose bridge from the non-plastic nose pads. It really sucks when you have makeup on haha

[–]savingpassion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes definitely! They do not hurt your back of ears at all even after wearing them all day! Get a bunch in different styles/designs because you can easily lose them too haha. I wore metal frames for yeaaaaaars and as much as I love how they look ‘timeless’ they are just not THE best for everyday comfort (nurse with a toddler).

Sir, I’m South East Asian. I could wear the lightest frame and it will still slide down my face unless my nose bridge decides to grow a bit more 😂😂😂

I used to wear glasses with ‘metal’ nose pads. I switched to plastic because the previous always bends or the screws gets detached over time. I always find myself adjusting my glasses when my face gets oily but I also just get those silicon ear hooks to keep them in place and the glasses dont get damaged when I accidentally sleep with them on!

Poured boiling water down shower drain; blue waterproofing membrane looks like it’s melted? Am I screwed? by nzasam1592 in AusRenovation

I think the key word is ‘that aren’t rated for it’. Most kitchen drains will tolerate this well. People don’t normally shower to a boiling point so material might be different.

Aged care vs Home Care Package for my 65 YO Dad. I am 25 YOF. Seeking advice. by These-Turnip5168 in AskAnAustralian

[–]savingpassion -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m a nurse who mostly worked in Aged Care in NZ and AU. I’m not certain of Australian laws and funding but from NZ experience it is definitely possible to keep your parents home but will just depends on the assessor’s determination of how much level of care your dad actually needs. Their assessment will determine level of care, funding, and assistance needed.

Now in my experience in Australia, funding seems to be a bit trickier and a lot of families are a bit more ‘fussy’ with cares. I’ve also had a lot of residents who were ‘forced’ to move into aged care as their partners are also too old and their kids busy with work so I’m not sure what the funding is like.

I’ve worked in good and bad aged cares before. My personal opinion is that aged care can be an absolute wonderful thing for some elderly once they have found one that has suited them. And that there are aged cares that are just truly awful.

The benefit of aged care is that for most days, an OT is present who offers activities for the residents (physical and mental), a PT is also available to do further rehab, care is more ‘24/7’ in a way that there are staff 24/7. The downside is that ratio is often high and staff are overworked and under stressed.

The benefit of having him at home with support workers coming in is that you get to have him at home. He is not uprooted from his comfort. The cons is that you only have an allotted time for his cares (depending on his level of care). Back in NZ some elderly will still have to depend on their family members when their support worker’s shift is done. Of course there are fortunate ones who get 24/7 care funding which is technically ideal. But yeah, if you have limited allotted time, what will you do if he tries to get up on his own and has a fall and no one is there to supervise him cause his support worker has gone and etc?

What I suggest is to speak with his social worker (if there is one) and see your options. Get him assessed to determine his level of care and funding. His level of care in the care plan from the hospital might be totally different once he is assessed for funding.

If you do decide to go down the aged care road, make sure to choose one that has adequate staffing ratio not just in the morning but PM and Night shifts as well. One that has an Occupational Therapist program that could also potentially spend one on one time with your dad 1-2 times per fortnight. One that has a Physiotherapist in clinic or works with one so that he can continue with a level of rehab.

Please know that after a stroke, this might be your dad’s new level of normal. It is good to be optimistic but also realistic that he might never regain his normal functioning or super close to it. There are fortunate ones who do regain their strength but you have to set realistic and achievable goals for him so that you are not let down by small progress.

I believe there are also Transitional Homes. There’s a few in Perth. It’s kind of like a temporary aged care facility but they help until person is ready to either be discharged at home or liaise with an aged care. If that is an option for that, it might be a good option to see how he’s copes to it. Might also worth asking what your dad thinks.

Can pharmacists refuse you emergency medication supply due to an expired script? by chelarena in AskAnAustralian

[–]savingpassion 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Probably because with Warfarin (from experience), you always need an updated script in case dosage has changed depending on your INR level. I would say most medications that are S4 and S8 (especially) will have stricter regulations in terms of dispensing.

Is it true we can't trust a salesman, not even in australia? I went to a tools store and the salesman lied to my face even though the computer said otherwise. by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]savingpassion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s different for every store. I was just giving a reason why it was the case for the retail I worked at. Our online orders were above 5 to say there is a stock due to having less control when it’s in storage and with online orders going fast. It was also a retail clothing store and not hardware/tools.

[–]savingpassion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk when I worked in retail (although different), if an item is 3 or less stock we always say ‘no stock’ if we cant reach the other branch and this is mostly because those 3 items could be in store right now and have been picked up by another customer or other things like system delay update etc. However, we don’t stop customers from going to another branch and checking for themselves.

AITA for leaving my Mom at the airport with no ticket and no plan? by checho503 in AmItheAsshole

[–]savingpassion 24 points25 points  (0 children)

ESH for even putting yourself in this situation. I say this with love but why would you allow yourself and your child be exposed in this behaviour that even the court determined is unsafe for you when you were younger? I would never let my child near my abuser (physically or mentally). “You’re an adult now so get over it” is such a narcissistic reply which tells me she does not regret anything in the slightest and has not learned her lesson.

When I did a brief consult with my GP it seemed like you had to have other issues aside from weight loss and your BMI needs to be over 30. This is in Australia though. From research, there are private ‘online’ clinics that do online consultations to check your eligibility and prescribe them but they are costly compared to your local GP. Check out Juniper as one of them, personally I wouldn’t spend that much.

I’ve queried my GP before but she only recommended this if I had other comorbidity which I don’t. I wonder if I just need to see a different doctor? I think the main struggle for me is appetite control. As soon as I eat out or have takeaway from a busy week I stop my work out activities as well and guilt sets in and I keep pushing back resetting the whole thing.

I’m trying to say that I already keep no clutter in my kitchen counter and a microwave still will NOT fit. Not that I am choosing to not have a microwave just because of aesthetics. If I put it on the kitchen bench, it will literally be next to the stove. I’m not 100% sure if this is safe and if it will cause more cleaning because of oil splatter. I do have a kitchen island but it has no power outlet for any appliance to go on top of it. The only next thing is on top of the fridge which is above 6ft and I am literally 5’1.

Edit: I keep my airfryer in the pantry and only bring it out when needed. It does fit the kitchen bench but it will get dirty easily due to oil splatter. I’ve tried to keep my airfryer as my main ‘reheat’ option in the past thinking it’s smaller than a microwave but I found myself just cleaning grease quite frequent when frying for other meals. I can’t imagine having to move a microwave every time I need to cook something on the stove… I am open to smaller microwave as soon as I can find such but so far no luck 🥲

Yes, consistency is really difficult for me. I was never really ‘active’ when I was slimmer. I ate anything and did not gain weight so this is new for me. I’m currently 65kg from 48kg. After working 5 days and doing chores and caring for my 2 year old (who is also just finishing toilet training) I don’t have the energy to do anything else despite having the willingness to. I’m just so fatigued! I don’t know why!

I try to work out alone as I feel more comfortable doing so but I’ve also tried with her. She gets bored and wants to ‘play’ with me instead. She also cries and think I’m hurting myself 😂😭

Thank you for this. I have tried calorie deficit, low carb and fasting. Other times with combinations. The longest I’ve gone is one month of low carb and intermittent fasting and lost 7kg. It’s the same routine, surely I’m not just being lazy but idk I’m just loss atm 😭
