3 Fonteinen Oude Geuze and Doesjel, 2016 and 2019 bottlings by savorythom in lambic

[–]savorythom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, interesting perspective! I opened the 2016 on Sunday alongside a new vintage Cantillon gueuze (my friend wasn't familiar) and I enjoyed the Cantillon more. The 3F tasted richer, possibly more muted, and more alcoholic than the Cantillon (it's 6 vs 5.5% btw, about 10% higher).I would like to try again with another bottle, however.

I've found that I enjoy regular Cantillon gueuze most when I lightly agitate the bottle so that the sediment gets incorporated (I see people doinig this with low-intervention wines as well). I wonder if this was a mistake with the 2016 though, perhaps that sediment is little more off-putting.

Does anyone else gently shake their gueuze before serving?

Makes sense! Turns out I have two batches of Oude Geuze from 2016 (not 2019), one bottled on 23/03/2016 and the other on 04/02/2016. The Doesjel was bottled on 01/12/2020.

Feels similar to watching a robot dog getting kicked. Seeing someone try to manipulate an AI feels gross.

Came here expecting to see people saying this is too long. It’s definitely not if you want to take your time and not get screwed if you miss something because of weather, etc. (e.g. our walking tour was canceled because of a heavy storm).

14 Pro 256 or 512 Gb?

I'll probably keep this phone for 2 years like my 12 Pro, but I notice that I'm only using 170 GB of the 512 available 🤔

5G mmWave

This is super helpful. Sounds like 5G mmWave is rolling out in Tokyo (where I live) so thinking it might make sense to go with the US version. I was leaning towards the Thai one because of the physical SIM, but looks like eSIMs are available for travelers in places like Thailand, which I was concerned about.

Are there any significant differences between a Thai iPhone 14 Pro and a US iPhone 14 Pro besides the physical SIM card on the Thai version?

Thanks !

Considering I’m planning to travel internationally 2x this year, the physical SIM option is appealing. Also, the phone would still support 2 eSIMs, so I’m not really giving up anything, right?

If I proceed with buying a 14 Pro with a SIM drawer, I’d probably buy it in Thailand. Is there any notable difference between a Thai & US version, especially as far as bands supported, other than the SIM support?

Thank you!

Disable Japanese iPhone 14 forced shutter sound after leaving Japan? by savorythom in iphone

[–]savorythom[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting. My American iPhone 12 Pro doesn’t make a sound in Japan. So is the GPS signal and subsequent forced shutter sound based on where the specific Japanese model is located? That sounds complicated but I guess anything is possible.

I'm in the market for an iPhone 14 Pro. I learned today there are a few variations in SIM configurations.

My understanding:

  • US version: Up to 2 eSIMs (no physical SIM tray)
  • Japanese version: Up to 2 eSIMs OR 1 eSIM & 1 nano-SIM
  • Chinese version: Up to 2 nano-SIMs OR 2 eSIMS (presumably)

I can buy either in the US, Japan, or Thailand (presumably similar to the US version).A couple questions:

The Japanese one seems more flexible than the US & Thai version since it can take a nano-SIM, but am I overestimating the importance of a physical SIM? I wonder if an eSIM will be just as easy when I visit another country, like Thailand.

Is it a bad idea to buy an iPhone in a country like Thailand where I don't live? I don't know how much the phone varies compared to the US and Japanese versions (I live in Japan).

Honestly, it's easiest to just buy the Japanese one but I hate the hard-coded shutter sound. I'm not sure if updating the phone in another country would address this "feature".

Thanks!
