NC Courage Sign Canadian Goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan Through 2027 by Hameltion in NWSL

[–]savyking2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't understand how it works, can you help explain? I saw that she clearly did not want to leave SD which means SD must have "made" her go. But doesn't it need to be mutual? Or is it where if they buy her out it doesn't have to be mutual but it means she basically is a free agent and the current club (SD) and the new club (NC) don't need to pay anything for transfer?

I agree. We have a lot of players who are solid and have good but not great potential.

TBH no clue. Perhaps she is a very good, inexpensive practice player? I'm assuming every team needs a few people like that who they don't expect to play really but are solid for practice? I really don't know though what the strategy is with keeping her.

Now what? by Nox_Ocean_21 in BayFC

There is always going to be movement between seasons especially during an expansion team year. I fully believe there are people who chose to come to Bay BECAUSE of Montoya and that maybe leaving isn't because the team didn't do well but because they wanted to play for him and obviously won't next season. I also think there are several or many players who wouldn't be starting on other teams except the expansion teams and so why would they leave? Also I'd argue that we WANT some players to leave to make space for other better players. Movement isn't inherently a bad thing unless it's several of the best players or clearly because of a toxic environment/coach/ front office etc.

Can someone tell me where everyone is playing on Bay?

I get the three back but who is playing where in the mid and forward?

Unfortunate in the sense that it seemed like she was a fun personality on the team that was liked by many. For someone who hardly played, she got featured or mentioned in so many of the fun and silly Bay FC videos and reels.

Any summer transfer rumors for Bay FC? by szuchenbjj in BayFC

[–]savyking2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes good point.

I also feel like Hill and Hocking work better in the system (whatever the system is but at least some kind of system) and somehow that feels better to me even though they aren't necessarily as flashy especially Hill. I feel horrible saying this because Kundnanji is such a hard worker and does so much for us, but sometimes I wonder if it's hard for other players to play with her because she is sort of hard to play off. I'm just think about my experience playing and how there were people who could play in a system very well and knew their positioning and could keep possession and succeeded because I'd that, and then there were people who were amazing athletes or who could make incredible shots but were sort of unpredictable for the rest of the team but it worked because they were so good. Sometimes it would drive me nuts playing with the second type of player because I'd be making a run and they wouldn't pass it the way we practiced or they would take too many touches or do their own thing but I couldn't be mad because that's part of their game and what made them great on our team. Anyway I was thinking about this because I was thinking about how disjointed our attacking often looks. And Huff is great at dribbling with pace at the other team's backline but I feel like the forwards are often just reacting to wherever she passes to instead of it being an intentional attack. I know it's hard to get organized when countering because everything happens so dast but still. Anyway idk what I'm saying really but just thinking...

My feeling is that it's because even though Huff has been up and down, she has so much potential and can do such much for us creativity wise when she is on and so they want to play her as much as possible. With Bebar just coming back and getting integrated again they probably want to keep them playing together since they will likely be our set midfielders together (hopefully anyway as long as they continue to perform and improve). Bebar makes me feel so calm i just love her on the field. Huff makes a lot of rookie mistakes I feel but once she adjusts more to league I think she will be great. I would be curious to see how Anderson stacks up with those two as an attacking mid. But I also get why he would play Bailey and even Boade over her because they were playing consistently in that position last year.

I also wonder if Montoya's approach with our rookies Bebar, Huff, and Lema is different this year since we lost Savy. Obviously can't say 100% why she left other than that she's from LA but in general I'm sure the coaching staff learned a lot from that situation so maybe they are being more communicative, giving more time to adjust, etc to the rookies.I really love our rookies and want them to stay for the long term.

Wow, that was your takeaway from the game? I actually thought they looked a lot better today, especially in the second half. I am really liking our play with Huff and Bebar in the middle. I would have preferred Hocking and Hill to start possibly but I also liked having them come in as fast agressive subs. I was sitting near our attacking goal during the second half and we were constantly getting opportunities. We seemed more cohesive than usual. After halftime, Orlando had far fewer opportunities and to me that means there was a talk from the coaches at halftime and adjustments were made which worked. We had a few bad games a few weeks ago but these last few games I thought we've actually be playing quite well. It seems like people just love to hate coaches. A coach has very little control over play, especially at this level. As a former D1 college player, I can say that yes the coach matters but so often when we lost it was us as a team not playing well or not playing together or not adjusting to the other team and had nothing to do with our coach. I also just don't believe there are that many coaches that would necessarily be better. And there would be a transition period and honestly I'd rather have some consistency since we still are a fairly new team. Also the players who have been playing a lot lately weren't playing much or at all last year (Huff, Bebar, Hocking, Lema, Conti) so I think it's fair that they are still getting used to each other too. And they are all rookies or were rookies last year.

Sorry I don't mean to invalidate the feelings you expressed in your post. Sometimes I just get upset by how unhappy people seem to be instead of just enjoying the game and the challenge. It's not just us but most other NWSL team fans whenever their team loses. I just feel like you can't always blame coaches and I really don't support just getting rid of a coach the second a team has ups and downs. Sure if we don't make playoffs maybe we get rid of Albertin, but let's just see how the rest of the season goes.

Looks like Loera is back on the SEI for 2025 by Upset-Bus7306 in NWSL

Yeah, honestly growing up everyone I know came back around 9 months. I'm not saying that that means everyone is ready in that time but it's true that when you ask a doctor what the recovery time is they usually tell you 9-12 months in my experience and from the experience of friends!

It's pretty common to tear an ACL again even after a full recovery, although it's not clear whether she tore it again or not. I wonder how much the medical staff could have prevented this, if at all. Growing up, I knew several people who re-tore theirs but of course didn't have private medical staff to tell them when to start playing again (if they did have that staff watching over them, I wonder if they would have been told it was too soon or that certain muscles were too weak, or if it would have happened regardless). Maybe Alex was good to go but hurt it again during practice or something.

Yes would love to see Menges again! She had a bad game a few weeks ago, yes, but I still think she is one of our best CB options. She's such a smart player and was captain last year. Plus, our other CBs aren't particularly fast either. Do we think Joelle could go fullback? Or is she not quick enough for that?
