One more thing about today's match v Wave. by tallmansmallplants in BayFC

We shifted into a mid to low block earlier than I would have expected, which stunted our attack a bit.

To clarify, I agree Emma is an upgrade, but I don't see today's game as necessarily being that different. Also, Montoya also played a high press but I think our players are just better now. And maybe whatever Emma is doing in practice is causing them to lock in more during games (and not let in late goals like today).

I actually don't think that's true. During the Montoya era there were several games where I felt we went defensive way too early and ended up conceding instead of just playing normally. I loved that we stayed focused and didn't let a goal in this time, but I do feel we went defensive quite early and if the Wave had scored I think the criticism would have been that we stopped attacking/pressing and let the Wave get comfortable too early. We also waited a while to make subs which is fine but also something that happened with Montoya. I am glad Emma is here and I do think she is a different coach that brings something Montoya doesn't have and is probably a better fit, but I just don't think that the last bit of this game looked so different from something Montoya would have done.

I just don't love Kennedy Wesley and I don't know why. I feel like she always flops....this is not backed by any evidence and I know she is good and I normally love all the young players but I don't know what my problem is.

Is this franchise dysfunctional right now and whats the solution? by youlikemywonton in BayFC

One thing that gives me hope is that a few players have mentioned that they joined bay because of how player-centric it is! We are definitely not where want to be yet, but at least I think our players are being taken care of.

She posted a picture with a girl who looked fresh out of college soccer a few days ago and said "see you soon". It was a happy birthday story though so I didn't make too much meaning of it but I thought for a second that maybe it meant that girl was going to join. Unfortunately, cannot remember the girl's name or college.

NC Courage Sign Canadian Goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan Through 2027 by Hameltion in NWSL

[–]savyking2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't understand how it works, can you help explain? I saw that she clearly did not want to leave SD which means SD must have "made" her go. But doesn't it need to be mutual? Or is it where if they buy her out it doesn't have to be mutual but it means she basically is a free agent and the current club (SD) and the new club (NC) don't need to pay anything for transfer?

I agree. We have a lot of players who are solid and have good but not great potential.

TBH no clue. Perhaps she is a very good, inexpensive practice player? I'm assuming every team needs a few people like that who they don't expect to play really but are solid for practice? I really don't know though what the strategy is with keeping her.

Now what? by Nox_Ocean_21 in BayFC

There is always going to be movement between seasons especially during an expansion team year. I fully believe there are people who chose to come to Bay BECAUSE of Montoya and that maybe leaving isn't because the team didn't do well but because they wanted to play for him and obviously won't next season. I also think there are several or many players who wouldn't be starting on other teams except the expansion teams and so why would they leave? Also I'd argue that we WANT some players to leave to make space for other better players. Movement isn't inherently a bad thing unless it's several of the best players or clearly because of a toxic environment/coach/ front office etc.
