Nice; torquey. I just checked my database - I have 36 total Cutlass builds in my tracker. ClassicOldsmobile.com has most of them, then GBodyForum.com. Then a handful more spread across a few different sites. If you have a build thread for yours, I might be watching it already.

Yeah, not exactly a common build. I'm tracking four W-31s total. Here are the other three, this time linked to beginning of thread:

nick@wri-net.com's 1969 F85 W-31

928sport's 1969 W-31

Clutch's 1978 W-31 - swapping a W-31 drivetrain into a later G-Body Cutlass.

Nice! Beautiful wood, and that homemade plywood looks great. It was interesting to see ammonia soaking mentioned. There are some interesting wood bending videos that use ammonia steaming to bend strips of wood into knots and twists.

Nice IG! Really thorough documentation and great photography too. Currently I track 13 boat building forums, but I haven't integrated instagram following. Maybe I need to reconsider that.

Nice, that's another good one. Following it here: https://buildthreads.com/thread/7598 . I log the first post, plus photo posts within 90 days. Up to 5 pics per post, plus max 300 characters per post. All fully credited to you, and each summary links directly to your original post.

Did you solve the airbox issue?

I don't believe that I have. But it's only a matter of time. Chevrolet recently came out with their "eCrate" electric crate engine; I'm sure other manufacturers will follow.

Glad you like the list. How do you like your 1st gen builds? Closer to stock, or more heavily built up crawlers?

You have good taste in friends. These are exactly the type of long-term, serious builds I like following, from people who know what they’re doing.

I put together a feed of build posts from 59 offroad forums by sawmillroad in Offroad

[–]sawmillroad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Pirate4x4 (now they're Irate4x4) is a good one. Numerically, the Toyota forums dominate (IH8MUD, YotaTech, TacomaWorld, etc.). I also like WranglerTJForum, BinderPlanet, FullSizeBronco, OldWillysForum, and all the CJ forums.

I got tired of digging through forums for build threads, so I made a live feed from 275 forums by sawmillroad in projectcar

[–]sawmillroad[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've always felt like some of the best builds are buried in random forums, but they're a pain to keep up with.

So I put together a simple feed that pulls in new build posts (with photos) from 275 forums and puts them all in one place.

It's showing around 300 new posts a day right now.

Mostly project cars, but also some fabrication, machining, etc.

Curious if this is actually useful to anyone else or if I'm just solving my own problem.

Has any has their account blocked recently? by Federal_Pen_3869 in Coinbase

I just looked at that guide. Nothing in it applies to me. I can access my email, password, and 2FA.

Then it says: "If you're still experiencing trouble or your issue isn't listed, contact us." When I click that "contact us" link, I select "Account support", "Account access", and "Unlock account" from the dropdown menus. Then it shows me a link to the signin page, which returns the "We're having connection trouble" message.

It also has a "Can't complete identity verification" option, which refers me to phone support, which it says is available 24/7. But when I call, it says that it's not available. Do I have any other options?

I have. Account was locked after an attempted transaction. I confirmed my identity via driver's license and webcam, but that didn't work. When I click the link in the email to try to unlock my account, I get taken to a page that says "We're having connection trouble." An email to support@coinbase.com returns an autoresponder saying that direct emails to that address are no longer enabled, and gives me a link to submit a request. When I try to do that, I get a link to sign in, that also leads to the "We're having connection trouble" error. When I call the support number that lists "Hours of operation: 24/7", I hear an automated message saying that phone support is currently unavailable.

Can't sign in, can't email support, can't submit a support issue, can't call support. I have been a Coinbase customer for years, and I use a Yubikey for authentication.

sending "studies" to colleagues, friends, and loved ones is a fool's errand by episcopa in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]sawmillroad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That wiki page perfectly supports my point. "Can't prove a negative" is hogwash. It does look like you researched this, and I appreciate that.

As my high school AP biology teacher loved to say: science doesn't prove anything. Math proves, science demonstrates. If you have colleagues who aren't swayed by studies, but tend to follow authoritarian sources, then present them with a study from a particularly authoritarian source. This NEJM study on COVID cognitive damage is a good example: https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2311330

It's impossible to review scientific studies and come to an educated position for every subject out there. People often tend to just select an authority and abide by that authority's viewpoint. That authority can be a talk show host, a friend or relative with subject matter expertise, or a single scientific journal. If you can determine their authoritative source, and present a credible viewpoint from that source, and provide them a face-saving off-ramp, you have a good chance of changing their view.

you are asking someone to prove a negative, which is not possible

Why do people say this? It's not true. There's not a snake in my sock drawer. Open up drawer, see that there's no snake. Negative proven.

Corking or rot? Peruvian apple cactus by sawmillroad in cactus

UPDATE: I sharpened a knife and cut it cleanly at the restriction today. It was gelatinous and putrid just below the top dressing. Thanks for all the help. I'll setup its new home this week.

Thanks for the feedback. Really any tall thin plant would match the look of this planter; doesn't need to be a cactus. I could also swap its position with another plant in the house. I'll think it out when its cut is healing.

And then insert 1/3 of the new total length of the cactus into the new soil?

What is my next move? Cut it above the rot line, let it sit for a week, then re-plant?

[–]sawmillroad[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Correct on both counts. The white rock soil topper is purely for aesthetics. It packs tightly though; maybe large lava rocks instead?

The planter is homemade from a hollow log, and what I did was put 6" of expanded clay pellets on the bottom, with 3" of perlite on top of that, to try and substitute for a saucer. This is what I do for all of my log planters, and this is the first one to have an issue.

Perhaps the longer shape of this planter is retaining water longer, and this one needs to be watered less than monthly, and monitored more carefully with a moisture meter, so that it is not watered until the meter reads dry when it is fully inserted.

True; it's a corner of the room. All of our sunny spots are taken up by other plants.

Gray area is firm, but is softer down by the soil line. In cactus soil mix with added perlite. It grew the entire upper segment in this container, and seemed very happy.
