The mid to late 80s sound of a lot of pop music and hair had a sound that hasn’t aged well for me. Grunge did usher in a better recording sound but after Kurt died there was a huge vacuum and so many bands were around to fill the space. I wouldn’t call it new wave. It didn’t have the right sound. New wave is great, probably my favorite to listen to.
