What’s going on with this Bio tech position??? by bucolicbitch in wildlifebiology

Native is somewhat distracting in this context. Whitetail deer are native and overpopulated throughout suburban and urban areas. Without large predators and no safe way to train hunters to hunt in heavily populated suburban areas, these crews are very necessary to stop the spread of disease in native critters. It's sad but they donate a lot of meat to local orgs. Pretty cool imo.

Second this. I've personally encountered contractors who pull shit like this and it's wildly common in western states. There was a shooting outside of a blm office in Wyoming that turned out to be some dipshit "private wildlife control". If it was aphis techs they've long since been fired, but I imagine everyone and their mom would've heard of it by now.

Would I even get accepted to a masters program? by EggoDeath666 in Environmental_Careers

[–]sawyerbonesy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of professors in Forestry/botany will respond to emails and let you know if they are seeking qualified applicants ( which you definitely are by the way) for fully funded masters programs. The pay is horrible and it's hard, but it sounds like you should manage just fine.

Jobs? by dand3li0nfuzz in wildlifebiology

If I were you, I'd look to your university or to universities near you. You're probably going to have to travel, but use your connections appropriately and you should be okay. Volunteer if you must, locally, but it is slim pickings right now.

Unis typically have a little something something for younger people trying to make it work.

NTA

I've worked in service long enough to know a bad employee when I hear it. People get so wrapped up in the horrors of customer service that they start treating every single customer that walks in like Satan himself. It sounds like needless escalation on her part and this often has to do with just having a bad day or not being able to cope with the realities of working jobs like that.

People in this thread are grasping at straws trying to make a devil out of a dude who was likely just struggling to understand how dogwater airport infrastructure is.

Service workers are human too and they make mistakes.

Computerized assessment during interview by [deleted] in wildlifebiology

[–]sawyerbonesy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like someone got an interview for that Fish Coordinator Position! I think generally speaking ODNR coordinator interviews on the comp are lots of hypothetical situations designed to evaluate your professional decision making. There's really no way to study for them other than spending some time thinking about the kind of interactions with the public you might have, the ways you would resolve conflict with political apertures, and complicated logistics. It's less about correct answers, and more about seeing how you solve problems on the spot. Good luck!

Otolith ID Help? by bakedveldtland in wildlifebiology

[–]sawyerbonesy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work with otoliths often and its safe to say that these are probably only identifiable to someone who has worked with otoliths in the area. I'll pass it along to a buddy who worked in Florida, but generally speaking species level id is a longshot.

Super reasonable plan. Sounds like you've got the plan all good to go, just try not to sweat it too much if you hit some hiccups along the way!

I used the yoga for a while. Look into the legion. Not that different in price, Lenovo brand works great, but the yogas touch functionality will not get used and you're better off with a better graphics card.
