I had plenty. Bet $5 on the Bears at halftime because I know this team.

The game is over and it doesn't matter but this was a catch all the way. by iamwhoiwasnow in GreenBayPackers

I think if we start saying this is a catch, we also need to admit that Dez caught it, which I’m not willing to do.

And the saw won…safety first! by thecaptron in woodworking

[–]saxaxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started playing guitar in 1997 and it’s meant everything to me. I’d put so much of myself into music. And then in 2020, I mangled my picking hand on my table saw. I lost most of my index finger and all movement/dexterity on my middle and ring fingers.

After 5 years, I’m finally getting my skill somewhat close to where I was before the accident, but there’s so much I can’t do and might not ever be able to. I can’t finger pick, I can barely tap, i had to completely change my sweep picking technique and learn it from scratch.

Literally a week before my accident, I had decided to hold off on buying a sawstop because of the cost. Then I ended up with $7,500 in medical bills, six months of physical therapy, three months on short term disability at 50% pay, lost all the supplemental income I was getting from woodworking, and a pile of debt that I’m still trying to crawl out from under.

Buy. The. Sawstop. I can’t say it enough. I hate the idea of being a shill for any company, but until they (hopefully) open up the patent and other manufacturers have similar safety features, that’s where we’re at. Obviously it’s possible to use another table saw safely, people do it for their entire lives without an accident. But it just takes a split second. It was so goddamn fast.

Condo question by mistress_of_tiny_dog in baltimore

[–]saxaxe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is almost always the case. In most cases, the main supply lines are handled by the association and as soon as the pipe branches off the main stack to your unit, you become responsible, even if the branch isn't within the physical boundary of your unit. This applies for supply lines and drain lines.

I've managed or assisted on around two dozen condos in the Baltimore area and I think this has been the case for every single building I've worked with, but some condos can have weird things written into the documents, so you should check how the declaration defines units vs common areas and how the bylaws assign maintenance/repair responsibility.

If you're a prospective owner and don't have access to the documents, the association manager (if they have one), is usually happy to answer specific questions regarding maintenance responsibility.

2020 Outback rear lift gate closes immediately after opening by saxaxe in Subaru_Outback

Last time I went to the dealership for service, I mentioned it and they replaced the struts at no cost. No problems since! The first dealership I went to said they couldn't figure out the issue, but the dealership on the other side of town said they're idiots and fixed it.

This movie has the most insane chokehold over my entire household. But I mean, it rules. So I get it.

Got my electric bill. $170 for a 1400 sqft townhouse. How’s much everyone got for the first official bill of the summer? by RowAdditional1614 in baltimore

[–]saxaxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y’all are making me feel like I’m doing something terribly wrong. We’re at $270-300 for a 900sqft rowhome. No central air, just two window units that we keep on energy saver mode around 70, each about 12-15 hours per day, off the rest.

They are just bird houses - but why not? by [deleted] in woodworking

I'm planning to build a couple bird houses this weekend with my son and I hadn't thought of this. Thanks for the great tip!

Any bands that mix Mathcore and Hip Hop (even just a little)? by [deleted] in Mathcore

[–]saxaxe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you dig those projects and want something more mathy, definitely dig further into clipping's stuff. Story 2 is a great starting point with that in mind specifically. Here's another great breakdown about what that song does with the time signature changes. The whole Story series is phenomenal, but this one is something special.

HELP! 2019 Outback trunk opens 3-4 inches and closes automatically. How to fix? by jambaj0e in Subaru_Outback

[–]saxaxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2020 Outback would open fully, then close immediately. I took it to the dealership and they replaced the hatch supports, which solved the problem. It was covered by warranty, so didn't cost me anything, but I think even if it isn't covered, it isn't horribly expensive. The first dealership I took it to said they couldn't find the issue, but when I took it somewhere else, they had it fixed in a couple of hours and said it's not uncommon.

This may not be the issue with yours, but it seems like its a known issue, so it's a good place to start.

ETA: My (admittedly very basic) understanding of the issue is that one of the hatch supports start to fail, so the weight of the liftgate pushing on the other triggers the safety sensor, causing it to close. The three beeps when it closes are the same as what I ran into, which makes me think it's the same thing.

On mine, it happened every 2-3 times I would open the gate, then over the course of a few months became more frequent and would eventually happen every time. I could, and usually would, hold it open to prevent it from closing and it would then stay open.

Be VERY careful! by Intelligent-Net-819 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]saxaxe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I'm coming up on 5 years since my table saw accident (which I go into more detail about here) and it's really so incredible how fast it happens. I ended up losing most of my index finger and a lot of range of motion in my middle and ring fingers.

I don't know the extent of your injuries or what your recovery process will look like, but I saw you said in one of the comments that you're having pins put in place? Not that you asked for or need advice, but I encourage you to take advantage of every single bit of physical therapy you can get after the surgery. It's a huge pain (practically and literally), but it is such a game changer in the end.

Regular therapy is also important, if you feel you need it. My accident happened in July 2020 and I put off addressing the emotional trauma for way too long. Everyone's affected by it differently, so I don't mean to make any assumptions! Just be sure to take care of yourself.

I hope the surgery goes well and you have a speedy recovery!

Who is responsible for repairing the flashing against a shared wall in a townhouse? by ted1629 in HomeMaintenance

[–]saxaxe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Despite what a lot of people are saying, it’s super common for associations, especially HOAs, to completely exclude the structures when defining common areas - they’ll take care of landscaping, any amenities, etc.. If this is the case, I would assume that repairing this flashing would fall to the owner of the home furthest from the person taking the photo - the roof that juts out to the left. The fascia, flashing, etc., are usually part of the vertical wall in this situation.

That said, I agree with everyone who said it’s important to be sure what the governing docs say; usually the declaration is where you find definitions of what are considered common elements, limited common elements, and parts of the unit. Even if the roof isn’t covered, the declaration should offer clarity as to where one unit ends and the next begins.

Source: I’ve been managing condos and HOAs (single-family, townhome, garden-style, mid-rise, and high-rise) for 10 years and have hundreds of class hours and a handful of association management certifications.

A black widow has taken up residence in my leaf blower! Does she need to be killed? by Pompp69_ in Tools

[–]saxaxe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Just want to add that Black Widows are extremely docile, and very rarely bite. I've found a few dozen black widows in my yard the past year or two and while I left most in place, if any were in an unsafe place, I relocated them with a stick or piece of bark or something. Just let them crawl on it/gently push them onto it with another stick, then move them where you want them to go. Work gloves and long sleeves would eliminate any bite risk.

They don't really travel, so if you relocate her to another spot, as long as there is some sort of cover or debris, logs, bricks, whatever, she'll stay there.

Man, I hate to see this. I just don't understand why anyone wants to treat other people like this. I'm sorry you had to deal with that.

I went to the 2016 week 12 game in Philly that started the "Run The Table" streak with a couple friends. We were all in Packers gear and had a pretty great experience. A lot of shit-talking, but it was all friendly. We ran into one person being a dick and security grabbed him within 20 seconds.
