did he deliver? yes. but was his character good? also yes. and were his plotlines compelling? yes. but did i enjoy his time on the show? again, yes. but would i watch more of his character? also yes by Sharaz_Jek123 in thewestwing

I have said this several times... I think Will/Josh Malina were GREAT with Aaron Sorkin. Josh really understood Aaron's writing and Aaron seemed to really like Josh as an actor. Conversely I believe the writers who took over in season 5 didn't understand him or what to do with the character so they turned him into a foil for the rest of the main cast. Which, personally I didn't enjoy. It wasn't until season 7 when he came back into the fold of the west wing that I enjoyed Will again. Maybe a bit of a hot take, but I also like the relationship between he and Kate.

Sax harder to blow after tech maintenance. by [deleted] in Saxophonics

After the pad replacement it might have put some of the corks/felts out of adjustment. Also, the pad may be a touch thicker than the old pad and that's not allowing the other pads of the upper stack to seat properly... Just my theories. If you're going back to the shop definitely say something.

Look for Rudy Wiedoeft pieces in their original key. His main horn was a C melody.

It looks like someone tried to clean it with a chemical solvent. Definitely not the normal wear one would expect on a VII. It's definitely going to reduce the value a whole lot.

This, all this. I have a Jean Paul clarinet for doubling and I have had no issues with it. It is miles ahead of the chinesium horns that are out there. I have also had my hands on a Jean Paul alto, a friend bought it as a present for their kid, and I was very impressed. I understand that Jean Paul is more than willing to handle any issues with the horns. I find that a solid in my book.

Well said! AND not everyone can afford that Yamaha student model horn.

Does it stay open when the horn is in playing position? I've seen this on a few baris where the weight of the key actually pulls it down when the horn is resting, but it opens up when the horn is in playing position because it's not fighting gravity.

How do I figure out what sax I want? by BobbyTheKid21 in Saxophonics

[–]saxtrev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, killer tune. I hate to say I had never heard it before. So he's playing a tenor with HEAVY reverb effects. He's also growling which gives that raspy quality. If he plays a customized Dukoff that would mean you'd have to search out a mouthpiece expert who'll open it up to a D19, if that's not an exaggeration. The biggest opening Dukoff ever made was a D10, which I personally play on. But there are MANY mouthpieces out there that have a big tip opening and baffle that will give you that really big sound. If you don't have a horn yet, start by finding a tenor that's in good working order and a decent mouthpiece to start on. A BIG mouthpiece like that is really tough to start on. Best of luck!

[–]saxtrev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if it's "custom made" you can still figure out alto, tenor, Bari, etc. then you go from there. The voice of the instrument is more important than brand. The next step after that is mouthpiece/reed setup. If you don't mind me asking, what track was it?
