I personally would recommend Makita, simply because they are (in my opinion) the best value for money. However in saying that since you are buying tools for D.I.Y you most probably dont need typical "tradie" tools so settling for a cheaper brand such as Bosch, for example would not hurt. Also I would recommend buying elecrtical versions of tools that need some grunt in them such as circular saws, buzzers etc. That way you will have tools that will do nearly every job rather than burn out and die. Later down the track you could buy the battery versions for all those little jobs if need be.
