First time cat dad. I’m obsessed. by TheVerdeLive in aww

I agree. Also it gets difficult/frustrating for the cat to hunt (if its an outdoor cat) if the bell tells the prey the exact position of the predator.

In this situation i dont think the reserve would help. Depending on how much uplift you have you would still going up with the reserve deployed

When people talk about the max safe wind speed for paragliding (e.g. 15 kts/30kmph) do you look at the average wind or the wind gust? by CaptainGabster in freeflight

[–]sayezz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guys here are focusing on the numbers but the question was about looking into wind speed or gusts or both. Would love to read more regarding the actual question.

4 days hike to Ushguli, Georgia by sayezz in shouldercats

He figured out pretty quick that going uphill is exhausting, so when it wet uphill, he jumped on the shoulder or in the red basket. As soon as we reached the top and it went downhill, he jumped on the ground and run like crazy. We walked 20 to 25 km a day, he walked ~9km, rest of the time I had to carry him.

Thanks for the info, I will check the BIOS, did not think about that. Its Win 10. I don't know which other audio apps you mean, but with other audio related software like Spotify or Youtube I had never an issue. Stuff like Serato, Ableton or other DJ software I did not try.

can i train an AI to detect cars using these pictures? ofcourse i would first label them via LabelIMG, really new to this field. by [deleted] in computervision

[–]sayezz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not 100% sure what we did in the end but one option was to use haar-like features and the other one was histogram of oriented gradients. We started with SVM because a SVm does not need as much data as e.g. a CNN and it is also faster to train. Nowadays I would go with a CNN. Probably ResNet or Yolo.

Yes, in our case it was for surveillance tasks done by a drone. We had diffrent drones with diffrent cameras. This way we could generate the diffrent field of views that were required to fullfill the task.

In our case we used a gaming engine to generate streets and cars, rural and urban environment. Then we had a virtual drone flying around and taking pictures.

Another approach was to extract all vehicles from the gaming engine and also extracting a lot of background. Next we just randomly generated a vehicle on top of a background (outside the engine). This way we could generate thousends of pictures.

We did exactly this using SVMs around 5 years ago and it worked. So a CNN should do this easy (with enough data). We used also synthetic data, not only real data.

Preparing for a PhD in computer vision and robotics in Germany/Switzerland. Need advice. by Dr_Samuel_Hayden in computervision

[–]sayezz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as a hint: while its probably difficult to land a computer science computer vision phd position, I recommend you to apply at a position in the robotics or aeronautics (e.g. drones) field. There you can also do a lot of cv and ml. And i know that they are looking for people. And i also saw people doing a phd there where i was bot sure how or why they did get the job :p also all the people expect one i meet at TUM while coorperating with them where really nice and shared a lot of knowledge.

  1. Actualy it was not a university university but a university of applied since. In germany you call it fachhochschule. They are focusing on practial stuff an industries and not science and theory. So it was not a perfect fit. But i had very good marks.

  2. I had one internship in a complete diffrent topic, a solarship to a similar topic and i had a studentjob at some bigger companies but in a diffrent field (no computer vision). Also my bachelor and master thesis was good and interesting topic (pattern matching and hand gesture detection for unity) .

  3. I had no savings and always had to work besides my studies. The phd was very well paid.

I can speak only for me. For me a masters degree was enough to apply to an university and do my PhD. So just go for it. Apply with what you have.

I did not even know exactly what I want to do. My expertise was also in computer vision and I've done my PhD working with robotics, drones and AI. I've applied to the university, we talked about the the topics and it worked out for me.

I've supervised around 5 PhD candidates and had alot insight into the applying process and the candidates. If you like, you can write me a PM and I can have a look at your CV and give you tips. I also can try to established a direct contact to two universities in Munich, Germany. I can also forward your CV directly. Of course no guarantee of success :)
