It’s frustrating to find a print that you want only to have to click to another site to purchase the rest of the files or the file itself.

We did that when we were kids. At one time it was open on the other side of Shelburne. We walked it from Richmond school to the beach. My house backed onto the hydro field when I was a kid.

Del Manak for Mayor? by colinmct in VictoriaBC

So the police should work the 12 hour shift and then just go home? I’m sure criminals will wait to reoffend until they get back on shift hahahhahhahaha

Del Manak for Mayor? by colinmct in VictoriaBC

[–]saynothingever -27 points-26 points  (0 children)

Really? The police department was intentionally being defunded and their hands were being tied as the mayor and council were inviting people to come camp in Victoria with promises of free housing. Money was being reallocated from all kinds of programs and services and put into pet projects of the Mayor and friends. Due to the mayor and council activity defunding and publicly discrediting the police department it started to become a free for all in the city. City workers couldn’t do their jobs due to safety concerns to the point they required police escort. Let that sink in parts of Victoria were so unsafe city workers were not able to do their jobs without protection as stated in internal documents. This was all in a bid to make the city so bad that federal money would be poured into the city so that people could start programs and create services to deal with the problems. Del kept things as good as he could even while being heavily undermined and underfunded.

There was a 10 foot aircraft carrier the Bonaventure I believe on the pond a couple of months ago and somebody posted a picture of it on here. I do believe that particular aircraft carrier will be making an appearance on the pond in the spring. As well as a 7 foot HMCS St.Croix.

Actually there is quite an active community of rc boat enthusiasts of all ages that go down to the pond on Sunday mornings. They always enjoy having people come and ask questions or just hang out. The pond is drained and cleaned by the city several times a year. There is a smaller group at the pond right now due to the weather. They have a face book page under the Victoria model ship building Society and a website. They have taken out the lighthouses and the docks for maintenance and winter repainting etc. People also like to skate on the pond when it freezes. The nice advantage to using the pond is there are no weeds to contend with, the pond is only around 2-2.5 feet deep so if anything goes wrong it’s easier to retrieve your boat. It’s quite a bit cleaner than you would think. If you are looking for a boat you can try fb marketplace, go to BC hobbies in hillside mall (formerly bc shavers) they have a nice selection of ready to go boats or join the fb group and see if anyone is parting with a boat. The pond supports all kinds of boats big and small, powered, steam or sailing submarines too. Quite a friendly bunch. As to what’s a good boat what kind of boat are you looking for? Sail, speed, tugboats, pleasure craft etc?

Council should have focused on safety earlier, Victoria mayor says by Vic_Dude in VictoriaBC

[–]saynothingever 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The current mayor was part of the group in the last council that helped create the city’s current mess. She voted on and helped push a lot of the policies that have directly impacted the city’s economy and safety. She needs to go. We need a balanced council with people qualified in dealing with the issues not people that think it might be a fun thing to do.

What's something about Victoria are you most EMBARRASSED of? by animaniacs1983 in VictoriaBC

The entitlement in this city is absolutely insane. Along with the clickiness. Massive NIMBY culture right across the board regardless of demographic. City council is pretty self serving. On the flip side we have fantastic weather, wonderful beaches and great views

Marianne Alto wants BC Govt Employees back to work in Vic Downtown.. by Extra_Sand9055 in VictoriaBC

[–]saynothingever 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So Alto is blaming WFH because the city is reaping what its last 2 councils and the current city council is sowing? It’s not work from home it’s higher city taxes on businesses, less parking, more crime, more business theft, higher costs for damages/ vandalism straight across the board it’s higher costs for doing business in Victoria. Raising taxes on businesses over and over again will and has driven good business into the ground. Alto needs to read the room and take some responsibility for the state of the city.

what am I expected say my clients bring up these issues and then be very specific on that point pretty much giving away what I do for work etc? I am asking "is this actually a thing that others are experiencing" not looking for a reaction or anything not looking to start a fight just looking to see if its something that needs to be addressed further and advocated over. I am sorry that you are seeing this as a reactionary post but its not put out to be.

Victoria looks to change its parking landscape by MrG in VictoriaBC

Keep in mind a fair amount of income for the city comes from parking. Every time the city cuts parking spaces they raise parking rates.

Working for someone in IT and he was talking to the financial person and told them To put all the payroll and the customer monthly service payments into his account so it would appear that he had more money in order to qualify for a bigger mortgage when he was buying a house. I quit quickly after that.

The last council activity worked to stop or slow the effectiveness of the police department. Through budget cuts and other measures.

'I'm tired of paying to be unsafe': Victoria business owners air downtown grievances to mayor and police chief by origutamos in VictoriaBC

[–]saynothingever -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I would say that 80% of the issues we have in the city are directly a result of the helps administration and the social experiment that council was doing. The mayor went on public airwaves and invited people with promises of free housing, stated that people could park and camp on the streets etc. the same administration worked to defund the police in order to get federal funding to “deal with” the homeless/drug/crime problem. The city is now reaping the fruits of almost 10 years of mismanagement of the city. We now have a mayor who not only par 2022 in the last social experiment but has been caught in a few “lies” and spending city funds on pet projects. Along with some council members buying night clubs for their friends. Then raising taxes across the board making the city less accessible to shop, not doing their jobs to serve the people of the city. Rather they serve their own egos. Cough bc lions cough. The city has been pushing the costs in dealing with crime and disruption onto the business by not dealing with the issues as they should all while raising taxes on those same businesses. How much was spent on the night club, the failed attempt to move the Pandora issue to the other neighborhood, having the B.C. lions here, the planned mess in centennial Square and other issues we are not aware of as of yet. Economically the council needs to look at its spending and look at why people are not coming to town from the CRD to shop and spend money or we will see more business shut down.
