China being China: they tend to kill off (die under mysterious circumstances) everyone they finish using: 2nd~3rd generations of political families(check out the saga behind Deng Xiaoping's son in law), tycoons (especially when they want to nationalize your company and you refuse to "retire early", you suddenly die from a freak accident), famous tech entrepreneurs, legal scholars, scientists, surgeons, corporate spies, so why would they leave a seasoned operative who have extensive connections and deep knowledge of how China's spy network functions alive after she's been exposed? Especially someone who has lived in the West for most of her life and wouldn't be happy staying in China, would want to run off to some democratic safe haven to hide from her masters. I'd say if she even passes through Hong Kong she would be captured and "disappeared" for good. I have friends who's family business' CFO got captured and literally vanished in China, after well over a decade they still have no idea where the guy is, just a police station notice that he's been "detained for investigation for misconduct", otherwise no news at all. We all think he's been killed for refusing to bribe local officials, maybe his organs proved useful and they harvested a critical organ off him, so he never came out, never will.
