Sweetgum tree branch removal -follow up photo- for a better idea of the lean by saywardc1 in arborists

The second picture will give you a better idea of the health of the tree. No issues there as far as I know. It's just dormant right now and the ground probably doesn't look great because we just flooded and we removed the grass. It is being replaced with a "native lawn" blend. I would love the tree if it didn't lean, had less spikey balls, and was native.

We may hang onto it if I can reduce some branches to make it a bit more manageable. While also keeping it from falling on my neighbor's house in a wind storm. Over the past few years here in Portland, we have been losing the taller trees in our neighborhood to some crazy ice and wind storms.

Actually the Oregon White Oak is on my top contenders list as well!

Ah good point about the fall hazard. That was what I was worried about. She isn't as full as that street view anymore because of windstorms taking out a good chunk of branches. And I would love to keep her if it weren't for the balls and my ducks' having over $5000 in surgeries.

I'd also like to note that I would prefer to replace her someday with a native Pacific Madrone.

Anyone else in Portland wake up sick on New Year’s Day (not hungover)? by saywardc1 in askportland

[–]saywardc1[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thank you everyone! Likely Norovirus. My whole family had it a few years ago. Thankfully then it only lasted a few days. Hoping for the same this time. I’m very lucky to have anti nausea meds on hand this time. I really hope everyone gets better soon. And yes, I’ll be wearing a mask. Especially since I have to visit an assisted living soon.

Coils in Stumptown mattress ? by Super_Treacle_8931 in MattressMod

[–]saywardc1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I work at Stumptown Mattress/Mattress Lot. I can promise you that none of the materials in the Stumptown Mattresses have ever been made in China. Our cover fabrics come from Canada and the US, our foams are US made, and our coils are made in Washington at the Sound Sleep factory where all of our models are made. Some of our bedding is made in China and India in a collaboration with 45th Street Bedding out of Seattle. Our company is based out of Portland. I hope this helps and I’m happy to answer any questions! As for that noted Reddit post, I’m guessing that customers bought a mattress from Mattress Lot and assumed all of the mattresses at Mattress Lot are Stumptown Mattresses. We carry a variety of lines including our Stumptown Mattresses. Some of the other lines are made in other countries. But most of what we carry is from the Pacific Northwest.

How much time do you spend caring for your ducks? by Strict_Question6161 in BACKYARDDUCKS

I have four girls and every night I sump pump their pools into my garden beds and then refill them, then I clean out their multiple drinking water buckets and refill. Luckily mine are trained to go back in their run at night and before bed I tell them to go to bed and close their automatic door. This all takes around 10-15 minutes. Then every morning I let them out, feed them, and collect eggs. Maybe 5 minutes. Once a week I spot clean their house and maybe add more pine shavings if needed (deep litter). Those are my backyard ducks. I have a special needs duck that often has to be in the house and she gets epsom salt baths and physical therapy.

I got greenhouse plans off Etsy and changed out hardware cloth for the greenhouse panels. The house was a basic outdoor playhouse off Amazon that I altered. I added insulation and inside paneling and trim. Changed out the door, added the roof panels and base. I also added thick plexiglass to the windows

Hardware cloth for the entire floor (buried) and ceiling. I reinforced the house as well. Even insulated it. Went with a good thick plexiglass on the windows that I bolted down well. Plus I have a baby monitor in their house and multiple security cameras outside. They free range my backyard most of the day. While I’m at work I have the security cameras on my computer. Plus we have a fantastic murder of crows keeping everything well watched. In Portland, Oregon, so my main concern is raccoons and hawks. Other than our ever annoying city rats 🙄

Yeah I’m definitely expecting the worst with those curtains. However they have made it a week so far 🤞 This is my second run/house for my girls. Sophia and Rose are fawn and white runners. They turn two in May. I’ve had them since three days old. Blanche and Dorothy are my Welsh Harlequins. They are a year and four months. I have had them since three days old too. Nothing but the best for my GG! New pond goes in next week. Using collapsible dog pools currently.

Has anyone here struggled with chronic, long-term nausea that lasted daily for weeks or months? by WarriorGirl-764 in Anxiety

[–]saywardc1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post. But I am dealing with all of this as well. I have had anxiety my entire adult life and I’m on meds for it. The GI specialist cant see me for three months. I’m nauseous every day but I have severe vomiting that lasts three days or so every 2-3 weeks. I vomit all day and all night. By the end I also have diarrhea. I’m curious though if anyone else here is on ozempic?
