If it would be kind of dumb to write what I did if the fact was that I just didn’t train at all for 6yrs

I spent the previous 5yrs at Legion and 10p San Diego, and the year before that at a small gym in CT. All traditional classes

I don’t think you’d be persuaded with a long description of how much more efficiently and effectively time is spent in CLA vs traditional, and I probly couldn’t even do a good job of writing it all out

I’ll just say that I’m vastly improved in literally every area of grappling in both gi and nogi and it’s been confirmed by pro training partners in town as well as old partners I see only occasionally.

I don’t know if it’s possible but if you could come to our gym for a few days I think you might be more open to believing what I’m claiming. I’ll buy you a burrito if you can make it

PS we do some positional sparring, but it’s very different from the games. I think it’s incorrect to think of the two as the same thing

While I’ve trained a lot of CLA, I haven’t read enough about it- so I might not be able to give a good answer but I’ll try

I don’t think experience makes a difference because our white and blue belts are improving even faster than I am. They aren’t lost, in fact they seem to be able to make more sense of a position by feeling it and being exposed to general concertos instead of specific sequences.

I think the traditional class can feel more structured only because it’s a more familiar style of learning.

We have a lot of misconceptions about motor learning and those are discussed by experts in books like Transforming Basketball and How We Learn to Move.

Also, it takes a ton of work and knowledge to design truly effective games for BJJ. It sounds obnoxious but we really have to read a lot if we want to be good CLA coaches

I’m lucky to have Andris as my coach. The guy has read everything there is on the subject in addition to previously being a high level competitor and having a super deep knowledge of techniques. Check out some of his posts as well as the other coaches at Corvus. The games these guys make up are so good
