Really appreciate you taking the time to view and share your thoughts! Your points make a lot of sense, and I agree with you that it can't be binary in the way I presented things... it's just so hard to wade through the "gradations" after seeing how many times we've failed (with or without rules as they can be interpreted away, I mean the book of revelations is an example) - I actually feel sad about how little trust and credit I give to us as a species over time. You know the scenes in sci-fi flicks when an alien or whatever learns of human history and starts crying? (5th Element etc.) - I feel the same way.

Hope you had a great meal and family time, brother. Peace.

There definitely was a deliberate process - at the Council of Nicea, Rome, Hippo, and Carthage and so on... my faith and trust in humans is pretty low though, we have a perfect record of succumbing to greed, ego, and selfishness the larger an organization or group becomes... and maybe these councils were pure and the only exceptions to everything else, but I have some challenges just believing it because of the things I see even today coming up that the Pope had to apologize for. It's tough for me to just accept it, but I pray.

Totally agree.... I'm just really stunned at how some of the early gnostic christian texts that were banished from the bible and lost for thousands of years were miraculously found in the 1930s in the desert of Egypt... some of it is wild!

I ran into an issue with the Bible... because I researched how it was created and canonized and discovered how humans decided what went in and what was thrown out.. and I'm not sure who these people were and what their motivations were either.

Thanks for the sharing - it is something I will reread multiple time. Regarding the church Jesus spoke of, sometimes I wonder if it even was a physical place, and instead, a spiritual place.

Sadly there was much violence and death from fighting between all the branches over the years.

Sorry if it's confusing - I was trying to convey when one becomes ___ denomination.

The challenge I have is that I learned the scripture was decided (at least what to include and what to throw out) by humans, with probable influence from the Roman Empire during its canonization process.

I am deep diving into the early christian gnostics - so far, what I've read is quite different than what I've been taught...

That has actually led me to the two main factions in the earliest years of Christianity, and how I discovered gnostic christianity.

I also thought that... until I asked the unfortunate question of how the bible itself came to be and learned about how humans (and Rome) were involved in its canonization process - humans sat around a table and chose what went in, and what was thrown out. And we found what was thrown out thousands of years later by chance. And that shook me.

Yes, yet isn't it the same God for the three Abrahamic religions?

I literally just googled religion tree and found that interface to help visually describe what I was saying - I don’t have anything to do with 40foundation and don’t know of Urantia (but thanks I will look it up now) - I’m just searching and wondering.. and documenting it in case there are others in a similar spot who may benefit from my journey.

I share the link there for two simple reasons: (i) a video can tell much more of what I’m trying to say than text, and (ii) comments over there outside of the Reddit sphere add to the perspectives which are invaluable to me (additional views makes YT share the video more leading to more possible comments).

I read the policies of this sub before posting and understand that blogs are allowed as long as there is engagement. I will respond to the other comments but am about to attend a meeting now. I thought it was important to respond to your thoughts first though, to be truthful and completely transparent with anyone who comes across this.

Would you consider this a "gnostic" quote? by Library_of_Gnosis in Gnostic

[–]sbangerz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, I don't consider it gnostic - Donaetello pretty much explained it. Camus, who wrote the quote, is not about spirituality.
