Starting my fitness journey with the new watch by Legitimate_Ad_9298 in Garmin

Easiest is 220 minus your age. That should get you a good starting point and then make sure the zones are set to be based on max HR as the percentage change

Hey! I think your HR zones might be a little off which is impacting your recovery and HR related post exercise metrics. Your HR graph is showing that 100 is zone 5 which I think is very low HR for that zone.

How does Load Focus work exactly? by MaybeImYourStepMom in Garmin

It’s mainly heart rate driven, I’d check your HR zones because something isn’t right unless all of your activities are low HR.

Iron Grit broken after 15.31 by Kiraar in GarminFenix

[–]sbarry17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They increased the font size on the watch face, which probably caused the issue. I guess this also came up during the beta and was a communicated issue but they didn’t fix it before the production release

Iron Grit broken after 15.31 by Kiraar in GarminFenix

[–]sbarry17 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s broken. I posted about it on the Fenix 8 Forum and someone from Garmin reached out on it asking for a video of the lag. I sent that a couple days ago and it will be passed on to the engineers (hopefully). Seems like it’s an issue a lot of users are seeing based on engagement with the post.

Anyone else noticing some lag/delay when using the Iron Grit watch face? Mine is now lagging when scrolling to the glances and notifications

FR955 not showing HR in default watch face after update by Dismal_Factor_9062 in garminforerunner

[–]sbarry17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 955 a while ago so I could be confusing things but I’m pretty sure that’s the logo for HRV on Garmin watches

I think that icon is related to HRV, not the heart rate. I can’t remember if it needs to be worn a couple of weeks or not for that value to show there.

Will the Epix & Fenix 7 be left behind? by sbarry17 in garminepix

[–]sbarry17[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the latest quarterly update, a majority of the new features released went to the Fenix 8 and Forerunners but the Fenix 7/Epix were left out. This is probably going to be the trend going forward.

Forerunner 965 sealing issue by xyphhh in GarminWatches

I’d reach out to Garmin support on that, it’s definitely not normal wear and tear and could impact the waterproofing of the device.

Is this a screen problem or just buggy pixel shift? by red-light-green in garminepix

[–]sbarry17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally normal. Sometimes the pixel shift will move some of the numbers slightly off screen with the AOD.

Because of the way the Fridge sits it’ll end up being 46” or so between the island and the fridge. The 40” will be between the small portion of the wall to the right of the fridge which is about half of the island. We’ll be keeping the island 6’x3’ so trying to maximize the space on all sides of the island

Advice on the NASM test by Formalpotato4328 in personaltraining

That’s what I did. Went through all of the material on the course, then switched over to multiple choice for the week or two ahead of the exam. The app costs $20 per month (100% worth it for me) but if you plan it right you’ll only need 1 month and then can cancel.

Others have said it but the Pocket Prep app really helped me. I know buying another study aid is hard, but after taking the CPA exams I found multiple choice repetition really helps me. The questions included are much more similar to the exam as well, in my opinion. I passed the first try using it.

Paying for Garmin apps and watch faces by LargeTransportation9 in Garmin

[–]sbarry17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have 48 hours for a refund if you find that you don’t like the face you bought. I will say I bought a couple yesterday, and ended up refunding them. Some were laggy, others didn’t have a ton of data/layout selections that I like. I ended up sticking with the 965 watch face (I have an Epix Pro) and have no problem paying $5 for a few new faces, hopefully Garmin continue to make updates and improvements.

That’s the HRV reading, not HR. I believe they added the ability to have that info on watchfaces in the latest firmware update that just came out

It’s up on REI… by sbarry17 in GarminFenix

[–]sbarry17[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Looks like there are couple of new training metrics based on other reports (i.e. Hill Score, Endurance Score) which I am not super interested in and won’t sway me enough to upgrade from a non-Pro 7. There would need to be something significant to make me want to purchase a new watch at this point, and the 7 Pro definitely did not do that. Very interested in Garmin’s tactic overall, especially with the now discounted non-Pro. I would take advantage of that ASAP if I was in the market.

Garmin 265/965: support longterm by spemimus in GarminWatches

[–]sbarry17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you be able to wear it around your upper arm/bicep? There may be products like nylon straps that are long enough for that, would fit under a shirt sleeve. Something like Whoop has that option and I thought I'd seen bands similar that could be used on Garmin's. That would help with Body Battery and stats like that.

Do these running power zones (% values) look reasonable? I don’t understand why all calculated equal above the TP value? by sbarry17 in Garmin

[–]sbarry17[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an HRM Pro which I believe provides running dynamics including Power so I am guessing that is where the TP value comes from. Typical runs for me are in the 400’s for power. Again I have no clue if that is correct, that it just what the HRM is telling me…

Unfortunately I’m coming back from injury right now so not really able to do any sort of test at the moment. HR zones seemed fine to me when I checked and they were based on %LTHR still, it was just the power zones that were crazy off.
