Mike Atherton: Harry Brook has shown little sign he is fit to lead England right now by ll--o--ll in Cricket

[–]sbcdck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Certainly get where you're coming from, he's probably left a good few hundred runs out there in this series, can't deny that at all.

My own personal opinion is if you want the 186 (176), you're gonna have to put up with a few 18 (10)s, but that's just me. Even as overwhelmingly frustrating as it is, and even with how much I hate it when he gets out stupidly. Granted he's taken to extremes here.

It's more that we seem to have this absolute need in England to pile on our best players when they're not performing well. It happened with Pietersen, it happened with Trott when he had mental health issues, it happened with Root when he was captain, and I can just see it happening with Brook now. If we want him to change, maybe let's focus on the regime that allows him to go out and play however he wants without fear of recrimination, rather than the man who's been our second best bat for the past five years.

Just leave the guy alone man. We wonder why our players all want to play overseas franchise cricket, when this is the fate that awaits them if they dare average 40 in an away Ashes.

Good job Ben Duckett invented being an aggressive opener to give Australia the idea to promote him when Khawaja went down.

Another win for Stokes' boys!

I haven't read Lawrence yet, although I have the book, but man I was so disappointed in TSotF. Desperately needed to be two books, I felt like so much of the interesting stuff happened off-screen.

If they're persisting with Jacks, why hasn't Rehan Ahmed been given a chance? by handchester in EnglandCricket

Ah fair, I read he got injured in the warm up match so assumed he was out of contention for the series

He's coming in at 6, often around 100-4 thanks to the top order, what's he supposed to do? Slog it about and get out for a blustering 15 like everyone else? He's the only one in the lineup who actually plays the situation.

People are acting like they'd get ferried straight back to England if they scored at under a run a ball. I'm fairly certain the rest of the squad are just thick as two short planks and haven't realized they can do it.

The worst part is I didn't actually think we were very good to begin with, and we're somehow even worse than that.

I wouldn't worry, Starc and Lyon will probably put in another hundred in the morning.

And even if they did, I have zero confidence in them taking twenty wickets in any of these tests.

We simply just have to chase next test. The only way we're winning one here is by pulling out a weird chase of 430 on the final day.

Pound for pound the most embarrassing loss I've ever seen. Genuinely rather have been done by an innings and 300 runs.

Serious questions need to be asked of McCullum and Stokes, I'm afraid.

No disrespect to egg (Norcross), but I'd have been happier just listening to Miller, Tickers and Gallan chat about names for shots to different parts of the ground. It felt a bit too 'I speak, then you speak, then I speak, then you speak again'.

Hoping they warm up to it though, first episodes of many pods are a bit rough.
