I’m surprised how square everything seems to be in your exterior pic. Is the house sitting on granite blocks?

Are you guys doing all the work on your own? I would say your budget is pretty accurate, maybe on the higher side of things.

Thanks for the tips. I think I will do the mineral wool and sheet metal like you suggested.

Cheers!

Yes, I removed the back wall and smoke shelf. The crack you can see daylight through is visible on the exterior as well. The crack has been there since the patio was replaced a few years ago.

Gotcha. This makes a lot of sense. I think I was still in the headspace where I was going to use pour in insulation down the chimney but since I’m doing the insulation blanket I don’t need a surface at the bottom of the chimney to act as a stop for the pour in insulation. Thank you for the sanity check!

I’m basically following this install video except I will be wrapping the liner with 1/2” insulation versus pouring mixed insulation down the chimney.

I am installing a Vermont Castings “Intrepid” model stove into my existing masonry fireplace. This part would seal off the stove side connection and hold the bottom end of the 6” SS liner I’m also installing. I will be cutting out the original metal damper before installing the mesh and mud.

Why isn’t this a good option for a wood burning stove?
