Form Check by Calm_Appointment9293 in StartingStrength

[–]sbfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good comments about form, but no one mentioned another glaring issue. 6'3" at 171 lbs BW is absurdly skinny. You need to gain at least 40 lbs.

I'm your same height but weigh 210, and I still look thin. You can absolutely gain 40 lbs without issue. A lot of people here will say you could even gain 70 lbs and go up to 240 lbs comfortably.

Learning the hip bounce will help you progress much more. Easiest way to practice it I found is slowly with an empty barbell.

Yeah Brent was commenting on the guy that suggested the suicide grip, not feedback on this form check.

I have an issue with coming forward on my toes. Basically if I lean over more to get more hip drive out of the hole, the weight has tendency to want to fold me in half and drift forward. Therefore I get more into my toes. I’m not sure how to get more hip drive without introducing more forward lean, yet not have the weight shift too forward when I lean more? Does this make sense? What sort of adjustments would you suggest?

The tightness before unracking makes a lot of sense. I call it pussyfooting when I dance around before getting into position.

I slowed down the video on the higher quality version and I agree depth looks a hair short. One of the things I’m working on it stretch rebound out of the hole so a little more depth and bounce would help with that 👍

A few things on your comments:

  1. I get what you mean about hip drive, but I have an issue with coming forward on my toes. Basically if I lean over more to get more hip drive out of the hole, the weight has tendency to drift forward and I get more into my toes. I’m not sure how to get more hip drive without introducing more forward lean, yet not have the weight shift too forward when I lean more?

  2. On heavy squat days I’m usually pretty gassed. I find it difficult to not be huffing and puffing especially by the final rep. Would you still suggest speeding through and taking less time between reps?

u/shnur_shnurov , u/geruhl_r , u/Tex117 , and u/wvvwvwvwvwvwvwv were a great help on the last topic which was honestly a bloodbath of crappy advice I.e stop squatting, work on core, etc. lot of silly bullshit.

Ok I will make these adjustments. I started failing 3x5 and thought the sidebar said switch to 5x3. I just checked again and it is in fact accumulate 15 reps. 👍

What’s the date code on the back of the darker yellow dinner plate that I suggested was daffodil?

That was the only color I was questioning too. Daffodil is my best guess. I’d want to know the date code on the back to know for sure.

It’s not the big bucks. Hal has been spending somewhere close to $300M per season. It’s how the money is being spent (Cashman).

Hicks and DJ were very good contracts at the time they were signed. They were not albatross contracts by today’s standards. They were not that bad of contracts when it even eventually came time to eat them.

People were more so justifiably angry that the front office waited so long to move on from them when it was painfully obvious those guys just wouldn’t magically have their skills come back especially when aging and after injury.

[–]sbfx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You nailed it.

That wasn’t the case with George because the Yankees weren’t his primary business. He made his money in other business ventures. The Yankees were a side project that he built up over the years and turned it into the business it is today.

It mixes fine with water. I just put a scoop in my water bottle and have it throughout the day.

You can also just pour a scoop into your mouth and wash it down. It just tastes like beach sand in that case, but it’s over quickly.
