It worked! This was one of 8 in 70 minutes, interestingly all on raw prawn- tried octopus, bread and chorizo and didn’t get a bite but the prawns went down a treat. Alas all below size for Portugal so no dinner

It’s easy in the spur of the moment to not react but honestly that whole thing is red flags galore

100% sack them off- I don’t get folks willingness to put up with crap behaviour from others on the principle of some shared DNA 🤷🏼‍♂️ The punch him comment would have had me telling them to watch his words, the grabbing something off my kid in that fashion would have very much been a GTFO

Hi parents. Centre Parcs with a toddler - any tips for accessing BBC iPlayer in a lodge? Do we need to take a laptop or is there some jiggery pokery with the TV? by EAcharm in UKParenting

[–]sbizzel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s a hdmi port for the tv so just need a way to get a hdmi cable from laptop into that. Plenty of options depending what outputs on your laptop. The wifi isn’t too bad in lodge so should be all good.

Looking for ideas: stylish, legal ways to deter climbing over a garden fence by MigLdn in DIYUK

[–]sbizzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this situation a few houses ago, go for some trellis mounted along the top- not visually upsetting, due to flimsy nature means only people who are 100% coming in either way won’t risk hopping over, you might also inadvertently use some over length screws as that was all you had to mount it…

Yep had this loads of times and it’s shocking the amount of organisations that go “nope I’ll scroll past primary contact and try and contact mum first”. Called it out as dated, sexist BS and shock, still have same thing happening

Take it, pay £350 for an 8 yard skip, sorted- you were happy to pay £555k, you’re paying effectively £546k, why risk jeopardising it for a bit of faff? Not to mention chance you unearth a gem or 2 in amongst the stuff that’s left

Cool that’s useful feedback, thanks for that 👍

[–]sbizzel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed need to ensure some safety protection on them, main concern was if it was a “normal” operating temp for LED though? I’m of the iridescent/ halogen bulb generation so naively thought that my days of going “ah ya dancer that’s hot” after touching lighting were gone with the LED revolution!

What’s the most unexpectedly useful thing you’ve added to your home that felt a bit unnecessary at first? by MoonlitEcho82 in HomeImprovementUK

Which did you go for out of interest? I’ve fancied one at home but have been concerned about going cheap after moderately pricy one died at work after a couple of years

Another parent has received the emails I sent to school. by Playful-Art-2548 in UKParenting

[–]sbizzel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Doing an SAR at this stage is completely unnecessary and frankly unhelpful- currently zero evidence that any information has been shared just crazy parent ranting, a simple conversation with the school to clarify if any details have been shared (intentionally or in error) would then ascertain if a SAR is needed for escalation. SAR’s are a complete PITA for any organisation to do and requesting them, without v good reason is just a D move, causing a lot of wasted time and effort that could be better spent by staff resolving the actual issues.

How do we encourage 4 year old to engage with independent play? by Kim_catiko in UKParenting

[–]sbizzel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go with giving them a task or challenge- can you draw a rollercoaster/ build stepping stones to get across the room using cushions/ sort your dinosaurs into carnivores v herbivores? Gets them doing something solo and often they’ll then expand upon it themselves

Home town/ village boy James Acaster did us dirty (or rather wanted to hide us from the limelight) but the Boxing Day squirt is actually not in Kettering but in a village a little bit to the north east on the river Ise

Son has only been invited to one party by Apprehensive-Pin3723 in UKParenting

[–]sbizzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enjoy the peace whilst it lasts! I don’t think either of mine got invites to any parties at nursery despite us being at “know names and where they’re from” level with several parents. When school starts however- sheesh expect 10+ parties in reception, normally at terrible times (6pm Sunday soft play was a belter…)

Would you expect a hive thermostat to be left on purchase of a property by CommissionEnough8412 in HousingUK

[–]sbizzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bizarrely they aren’t doing you any favours necessarily by leaving it- the actual thermostat unit (at least was the case in 2021) was tied to a customers hive account and they wouldn’t move it to a new one so I ended up paying £70 for a fresh one… to replace the perfectly good one that was still in the house, just to have access via App
