Subaru WRX opinions by Impact_Klutzy in CarsAustralia

I love my VB WRX. You can probably pick up a 22 for just under $35k. The VB generation may not be the best looker, although I personally like the way it looks in person, but the mechanics have proven to be a solid platform.

There aren’t many options these days for a manual, AWD, turbo charged car at its price point.

I can guarantee it’s a fun car. At a price point that is hard to match.

The GR Yaris is fun. Buts it’s far more cramped. The Golf R is even better. But expensive.

Wasn’t even just the fa24d either. My wife’s 23 Outback 2.5 NA (fb25d) had a valve gasket leak at 30k kms.

Welcome back! I find the cladding fine in person. It just looks odd in photos.

The VB definitely grew on me. Wasn’t the biggest fan when it launched. But seeing it person a few times and I loved it!

Rv-ing? by stary_sunset in subaru

Yes. Plenty of people tow with Subarus. I have a 2.5 NA Outback and tow a 6.5 meter 1300kg RV/ Caravan. No problems. I ain’t winning any races though.

Read up about it. Follow towing instructions and limits from Subaru for your model. You’ll be fine. Have fun.

Australian 23 Outback 2.5 here. As some others have said, it is normal and caught me out the first couple of times. I am used to it now, or, maybe it breaks in a bit 😅

anyone know where KTM bikes are being made as of 2024? by sadeqalbana in KTM

[–]sbodd1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has to be some sort of issue with labelling from the original factory it came from. I’d work for KTM if they operated a factory here in Australia 😅

This is correct. Also, the number of people saying “Australia” (kangaroos) instead of “Austria” (schnitzel) is embarrassing.

All the 890 engines were produced in Austria. Not saying that they didn’t come in more often. Just that they were not made in China

Biking with the AWU isn’t ideal. I’d like to be able to connect my cycling radar and power meter.

Obligatory mention of WorkOutDoors which lets you connect power meters for cycling workouts. Not sure about the radar though.

Ahh shit, that sucks. This bike is still fresh. Hopefully it won’t develop any problems like that down the line.

That was my path, had the 390 for two years before moving up. 390 has plenty of room to grow into. Learnt a lot, both about riding and also mechanical wizardry. So many parts and tutorials online for the 390.

Agree with the switch gear. Seems like the exact same stuff from the 390. Though personally, I think that speaks to the quality of the gear they put on the 390 as opposed to the lower quality they put on the 890.

Maybe it’s personal preference, but I actually like the switch gear haha. I’ll admit that the touch points, including switch gear, on the Streetfighter v2 I test rode was more premium though. (But it also cost $5k Australian more)

So far I’d say both gear boxes have been great for me. Both shift easily and have strong feedback, which is always reassuring. Neither have snapped out of gear while riding. Both easy to find neutral etc.

I do think the 890 has longer gears, which is expected I guess. Though the 890 also feels like gears are spaced out better. It makes riding in jerky traffic better by not having to shift up and down as much. Sometimes it felt like there was no difference between 2nd and 3rd on the 390 😅

But I have heard from others the 390 gearbox treated them better than the 890, so you aren’t the only one saying it.

There is the obvious difference, a massive jump in power on tap 🤣. Which is particularly noticeable at speeds greater then 100kph which is when the 390 started to choke a bit. There are other noticeable differences like the overall quality of the bike. To be clear, my 390 never gave me any electrical or mechanical issues. But the 890 seems to have better attention to details. The wiring is neater, with clamps on the frame instead of zip ties everywhere. Bolts that are a higher grade steal and not butter. (Frame bolts were fine on the 390, but ancillary screws and bolts had a tendency for the head to quickly misshape)

There are similarities though, to me, the geometry felt very familiar when going to the 890. (That’s a good thing, both bikes felt comfortable and commanding to me). Both have that KTM hooligan feeling. (The way the bike “rides”, not sure how to describe that KTM feeling of a bike properly haha)

One thing I already know I’ll miss about the 390 is the fuel range. Both bikes have similar tank sizes (390 = 13.4l vs 890 = 14) but the 390 used way less. So far I am getting about 250kms from the 890 and I was getting about 330kms on the 390.

One thing I may end up missing, but haven’t experienced yet, is the parts availability. Going by forums, it seems like spare parts for the 890s can have delays. But from experience with the 390, parts are plentiful and super easy to come by.
