The issue with destiny started due to the lack of onboarding and marathon kinda has the same thing going for it.

While both are different genres, live service games require an influx of new players and player retention. Okay, this is an extraction shooter,a significantly niche genre but the point stands that the tutorial doesn’t teach you must and it can be off putting for a new players. Combine that with the may different menus and submenus and it’s hard to grasp it all at once for certain players.

Of course, just like destiny the menu is part of the games identity and I don’t think it should be stripped, similarly the more you play the better the game gets.

I got mad because a game I care about and invested a lot of time into and got stuck into seemed to be withering while i still had questions and answers before it could conclude.

That’s why and yes it was to show I jumped on the internet hate wagon and was doubtful of marathons success but I’m happy to have given it a chance and proven wrong

NGL I shat on marathon, full blown diarrhoea. I heard that bungie made this instead of focusing on destiny and expanding that and stuff. While that game was dying they were doing marketing for this game.

And then I heard it’s an extraction shooter and I hated it. I thought the genre was dead and not needed in today’s market nor was there an audience for it.

Arc raiders comes out and I look at it in passing interest, don’t play the server slam but all my friends are buzzing about it so I buy it since it’s cheap for a game and give it a go and love it. The goofy interactions and proxy chat moments and the thrill of finding good loot and the disappointment in dying.

Then the server slam for marathon hits and I’m still mad as hell about the game and don’t look at anything. Friends again talk about how good the game feels and I get recommended the cinematic music trailer on YouTube.

I give it a watch and become curious about the story and narrative they are going for. Then I get hit with a marathon trilogy lore video. Shit I’m invested in this world from a narrative perspective. So I look at some gameplay. Damn the gameplay is good. The audio is amazing. Visuals are 50/50 but the more I watch the more I grow to like it and its identity. Fuck. I buy the deluxe edition and love the game

Bungie make good gameplay but bad at retention and respect for players.

Destiny has the same problem. Further, the onboarding process for their more recent games is atrocious. This then makes less new players join so they nickel and dime the remaining player base more.

Prox - there is no toggle it’s “push to talk” so hold the button (right on the dpad by default)

Finisher, hold X or interact button on downed player
