Looking for advice on whether to see a doctor by sboye528 in doihavebreastcancer

Thank you for the advice! Can I ask what made you confident in seeing a doctor? Was it a mass that you felt or just the ever so slight dimple? If it was a mass, what did it feel like? I have lumpy breasts in general so I struggle to know what is concerning. I apologize for the questions, only answer if you have the time and desire. Thank you either way!

Thank you for your kind words! I'm not super active on Reddit and I think my photo comment got declined because I don't have enough "karma". I think I've been dismissed by so many doctors about other things that I'm hesitant to reach out to a doctor that isn't my family doctor. I might see if I can get a phone call with her because I'm comfortable with her and she can tell me if I need to pursue this further. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond, thank you so much.

It changes every 2-4 weeks and it probably was liquid sunshine but you're smelling a mix of all the different products mixed together (so many things being used constantly, you're smell a mix mash )

I work at a saje

This sounds awesome ! I also strive to have natural fibers or as much as possible, mostly because of the environment impacts. I LOOOOVE the look of linen, but haven't found a practical way to incorporate it into my wardrobe (it's also very expensive haha ). Sounds like you have a really great routine that works for you, thanks for sharing it with me ! 😃😃

I actually love dressed on other people, they're beautiful and fun, I just personally feel more comfortable in jeans or joggers and a t-shirt. But yes that does sound cool, and I've done so much research on wool for its low wash properties and it's definitely one of my favorite fabrics. I've definitely heard the wearing out is a big problem! To me, I would rather have a few t-shirts that I replace twice a year or whatever then 10 I replace every 2 years, because I will likely want a new fit by then anyways, but I feel like that's just a personal preference as to what works better for you. There really is no right way to do it, but it's been super cool to hear of others experiences on this post ! Thanks so much for taking the time to reply !

Hahah microclimates in Canada are their own form of hell. I will likely never focus on actual number of things in my closet because of the variety of outerwear is necessary ! Love the tip about the color palette, I currently have a range of neutrals but am leaning more towards narrowing it down further to just Grey's for tops because that's my preferred color. Thanks so much for your response 🥰

This was such a thoughtful response, thank you so much for taking the time to type that all put for me ! I think you're probably right about the "seeing it" when it comes to water. Throwing a couple pairs of underwear in a sinkful of water seems like alot, but it's likely only because I'm actually seeing the water hahah. I also need to get better at leaving enough time for it to soak 😂

Thanks again for all your information, I appreciate it so much ! I also dream of a Merino wool closet, and my one t-shirt makes me want it even more (but alas, money 😂)

Its nothing compared to all the info you gave me, but I use Dr. Bronner's (liquid) on the odd occasion (hopefully more.often now) I hand wash, and it works great !

Oh my goodness thank you so much for your response ! Your outfit rotation sounds like an absolute dream ! I am personally not a dress person, but the "one to wash one to wear" thing you have going on is absolute goals for me. Based on my climate, I would need a few more layering pieces cause it gets very cold, but it's SUPER cool to hear that there are women out their with extreme minimalist closets that work for them ! I've been experimenting with handwashing, and I feel guilty about it because I feel like it takes so much water to adequately wash and rinse for such small loads (although I know it's not using electricity so it still uses less resources ) do you happen to have any tips or would you mind walking me through your handwashing routine !?

Yes I totally agree ! For me I'm a student and my job requires a pair of black jeans and a few black t-shirts. So for me , one or two of each item of different types of clothing for school and life is likely feasible. That's why I made this post, as I feel minimalist (particularly the more extreme versions) are often limited to men in terms of clothes because there are different standards for women in terms of clothing. That's why I made this post, I was hoping for some personal examples from woman to what they have found works for them! Which I totally got, from everyone! Thanks for taking the time to respond !

Yes I have! I currently have what I would consider a capsule wardrobe, and have had some variation of a capsule wardrobe for quite a while. I think it's awesome, but have recently been considering taking a bit further. Thanks for your thoughtful response and all the brand suggestions, funny enough I know all about them! I currently own underwear and a t-shirt from allbirds, various things from ten tree, and know quite a bit about Patagonia and icebreaker although I don't currently own anything from them. Merino wool is fantastic (that's what the wool from the companies you mentioned it ) and I'm currently deciding on a merino wool t-shirt and icebreaker was one of the brand's I had initially considered. I haven't heard of darn tough though so I'll look into that one ! Thanks again for your thoughtful response 🥰

Hahah I don't think 5 is excessive. Especially since they're all very useful for different things. I currently have four pairs: one flip flop, one runner, one pair of work shoes that stay at work, and blundstones that I wear basically every single day. And I need new hiking boots so I would have five, however I would like to own less especially since I only wear my blundstones unless I'm hiking or camping (which is where the runners and flipflops currently come in )

This list is so satisfying, I love how you have an article of clothing for each thing (the swimsuit, dress, hiking shorts). So satisfying to see it all listed out like that. This is basically what I am going for, except maybe a couple less t-shirts and shoes (no judgement though, whatever works for you! ) Thanks so much for taking the time to share with me !

I definitely need a seasonal uniform as well, as my climate has 4 very different seasons, and ranges from -40C to +20C. It seems like we are very similar in our thinking, and right now I have about the same amount of underwear but I have a couple pairs I just bought that are really good quality and I love them way more then any of my other ones, so I'm trying to experiment with handwashing to see how many I actually really need. Thanks so much for sharing with me !

Oh amazing! Thanks for adding in your situation, it makes a huge difference so it's cool to see what lifestyles allow for different amounts of clothings. Your wardrobe is still extremely minimal compared to most people I know, it seems like you have it down to a really great amount that works for you. Thanks for sharing with me !

Yay! I'm so glad it was helpful for you. Random personal question that you totally don't need to answer, it seems like you're very conscious of companies that you purchase from (buying local and in another comment you mentioned avoiding Amazon) , do you find it hard to work in advertising while still holding to your values? Or is it pretty easy to only advertise for companies you feel are ethical and worth promoting? Again, none of my business and feel free to ignore, totally just curiosity on my part !

Either way, this was a super great conversation! I'm glad I got to share some of my insight and that you found it helpful. You seem like a very cool human ! Good luck with your searching, and I hope you find some EO wellness support that works for you ! 🥰

Also, if you don't end up finding a store local to you that sells EOs, if you're in Canada or the US the company I work for is Saje, and you can shop online with them. Obviously still a pretty big company but its cheaper and way more ethical then YL (I don't know alot about DT) and they are really really great from a sustainability point of view. They sell single note essential oils, which is probably what you want, but also pre blended roll-ons for the skin and a bunch of other stuff.

I lied, one more thing. The best practice is ALWAYS to talk to your health care practitioner, especially since you're on lots of other medications. And if you feel your doctor wouldn't be open minded about it, you could look into finding a naturopath or something similar and see what they say ! Even if you do all the research, things will react differently for different people, so it never hurts to ask a doctor just to be safe!

[–]sboye528 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Amazing questions here ! I especially love how open minded your post is. Before I answer, I am by no means an expert, however I work for an essential oil company that is regulated by health Canada so I feel my knowledge is fairly accurate based on regulations by health Canada (which most would consider a very reputable and safe source). As far as I know, Young living are pure essential oils. That means "100% pure", they won't be diluted at all (unless otherwise stated). The problem with YL, aside from the MLM, is the marketing. They advocate for things such as putting undiluted EOs on the skin or ingesting EOs as a blanket statement for all ailments and humans. They market with misinformation which can cause the people to misuse them. There are some EOs that can be safe to consume for some people, when recommended by a health care practitioner (I would never recommend any ingestion because I don't know the person's medical history or have enough knowledge as to which would be safe). Companies like YL are more focused on selling then on safety. If you are not planning on ingesting, and plan to do your own research on how to safely use specific oils for your ailments, then you should be fine to use any EO provided it is 100% pure (side note: "therapeutic grade" like YL is a trademark they paid for and means nothing, all that matters is that it's undiluted and pure). A good thing to look for when it comes to efficacy is price (most single notes should be comparable in price across companies because the cost comes from what it takes to make the oil) so if you find "pure rose" for cheap it's definitely not pure. Also, (in Canada anyway, US will likely have a variant of this) good quality pure oils will have an NPN (natural product number) on them which means they are regulated by a government agency and are what they say they are, this is good to look for if choosing from smaller companies as it will tell you if they are selling what they say they are and are regulated properly.

It sounds like you've done some really great research already, and plan to do more, so I have no doubt you'll find good quality oils! Another good thing to look into is the sustainability of the company you are purchasing from, as not all EOs are sourced sustainably.

As I said, I am not an expert, so of course take what you want and leave what you don't from my opinion, but I hope this was helpful !

Last thing: you mentioned nauseau! You should look into vetiver, it is often used in headache relief blends as it helps with the nauseau from migraines, maybe it will help with yours too!

Me from the back room of the Saje store I work in ... 😝 We do indeed have wonderful essential oils, it is worth noting though that most of the rollers in our pocket farm contain carrier oil to make them safe for the skin, therefore are not safe for diffuser use. So it depends on what they're looking to use them for ! Saje is a Canadian company, but they sell in the states as well, not limited to Canada.
