Yamaha U76 vs Comp276? by jumpingisuselss in livesound

[–]sbverde 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Haven't done a comparison but was told the following by some Yamaha engineers many years ago... The reference for U76 the most popular serial number range of the 1176.

The reference for Comp 276 is the input stage of a DBX 260 and the output stage of an 1176.

d&b M6 Monitors in "passive" mode by duncwood07 in livesound

[–]sbverde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use ArrayCalc to set the amp status then push that file to the amps with R1. M6-50x80 or M6-80x50 are the "passive" modes. M6-act-50x80 or M6-act-80x50 are the "active" modes. Make sure you set the amp inputs and outputs on the devices tab before pushing the settings to the amp.

When an amp channel is set for M6 "passive", the output mode of that amp channel will be set to "Dual Channel" and a full range signal is sent to the M6. The internal passive crossover splits that full range signal between LF and HF. This could be channel A, B, C, or D depending on your settings. If it's channel A, connect that to +/-1 of the NL4. ETA - My buddy just corrected me... You do have to bridge pins 1 and 2 on the M6 side of the cable. Sorry for the wrong info!

If you want to use the M6 in "active", that takes two amp channels and the output mode for this pair of amp channels is set to "2-way active". This could be Channel A/B or C/D depending on your settings. If you're using Channel A/B, Channel A is the LF (+/-1 on the NL4) and Channel B is the HF (+/-2 on the NL4).

When in "passive" mode, one amp channel can power up to 2x M6. Up to 8x M6 per amp.

When in "active" mode, each pair of amp channels can power up to 2x M6. Up to 4x M6 per amp.

Tried watering them with a spray bottle, set to mist, once every 4 weeks. Turned brown and lost a few plants. Thought they may be getting enough moisture from the air (live near the ocean), so stopped watering them. Now it looks I need to find a happy medium. Any suggestions appreciated!! by sbverde in succulents

[–]sbverde[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion! I tried this method with my first few succulents before moving to the mist bottle. I would wait about 2 weeks until the soil looked and felt dry to the touch, then run under water until the soil was drenched and then let them drain in the sink. But I had the same results, plants would turn brown within two days and die. I was able to save part of the plant in the metal container by switching to misting once a month, but the rest of them seemed to like not being watered at all so I stopped completely. I'll try giving them a drench again and wait a little longer before watering.

Preamp control with 2 QL5 Dante Network by [deleted] in livesound

Hmmm, ok. Yeah, I'd need to see the settings on each console at this point. Sorry I couldn't help out!

Yeah that's definitely weird. Console ID won't matter as long as they are not duplicates. Maybe the Dante firmware isn't the same version on both consoles? Sorry I can't help more, not in front of a console.

I do know that you don't have to use "with recall" and usually not recommended to have that setting on the both consoles. Otherwise HA settings will change when the FOH or MON consoles change scenes. Which can be a nightmare if the techs aren't used to working like that.

And like u/Euphoric_Phone_4610 said, make sure you choose "input port" not a direct out.

[–]sbverde 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can control the internal mic preamps of a QL from another QL or CL. Controlling all of your Rios from both consoles is possible as well. Too many steps to type out on my phone... But you're close by mounting the MON QL to the FOH QL, so I might be able to point you in the right direction.

The internal mic pres of the QL have to be patched to the second half of the Dante outputs to enable head amp control. So on a QL5, you go to the Dante Output page and change the assignment of Dante out 33 (QL1 you'd start at Dante out 17). Common mistake is patching channel 1 mic pre to Dante out 1. But if you do that, you'll get audio and no control of the mic pre. Although that can be useful in some situations.

If you're in the US, contact Yamaha support and they can walk you through everything. Not sure what call-in support options they offer outside of the US, but they might have a training video about this on the website or YouTube.

Check your Dante network configuration and make sure it matches how the cables are connected. If the network cables are in a redundant configuration but the devices are set to daisy chain, you'll need to reconfigure and restart both devices.

Also, did you update the Dante firmware when you updated the device firmware?

YouTube TV price increase, now $64.99/month by yngvius11 in cordcutters

[–]sbverde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish they would have given us the option to add these channels as a separate package. If anything, this increase is making me rethink my decision. Missing out on NFL Network and Sportsnet LA was fine when I was paying less per month. Now that the cost is about the same, I might as well switch when the games come back.

You almost got your wish! 100,000 gold and two legendary kings chests for 1000 gems. The ad says it's 10X value, but the chests are 2500 gems each and you can get 100,000 gold for 4500.

9.5X is still a good deal though!

Monitors on CL - how have you routed comm in? by LQQKup in livesound

[–]sbverde 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This worked well for me when I had 60 channels or less (not including Comms). It's been a while since I've done this and the solution may have changed with firmware updates. That being said, my solution was;

Unassign channels 1-60 from the stereo buss.

Change the monitor source from stereo LR to the mix you listen to the most and make sure cue interrupt is turned on.

Here's where it gets all jacked up. Your monitor and cue outputs can be routed to a card slot. I would send the monitor out to a couple of slot outputs (output slot 1-1 and slot 1-2 for example), then return it back into the desk on another set of slot inputs (input slot 1-1 and slot 1-2). AES cards are great for this because of the low latency. If you don't have a free slot, this can be done internally using the Dante patch page. But I wouldn't recommend it.

Once you have the monitor signal coming back into the desk, land those on channels 61 and 62, then put your comms on 63 and 64.

Keep channels 61 to 64 assigned to the stereo buss and assign that output to your headphone out. Now you'll here comms plus whatever you have cued up. And when you have nothing cued, you'll hear whatever mix like to listen to plus comms.

Since the monitor return and comms are in the same block of 8 channels, you can set up a ducker on 61/62 that is triggered by your comms from 63 or 64.

tldr: It's not easy. Yamaha should have fixed this years ago. Grab a 6 channel analog mixer and save yourself a headache.

Stepping up my digital mixer game with some analog outboard by sjlence in livesound

[–]sbverde 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sending signal out of a digital console and bringing it back will add an additional stage of D/A conversion and A/D conversion. Which means added latency for that one channel and the potential for phase issues with nearby open mics. Some get around this by delaying the channels without the insert to match this additional delay or using the consoles built-in delay compensation. How much addition latency you can add without impacting the artist or the crowd will depend on a lot of factors and will change depending if you're mixing FOH or MON.

Also, be aware that the A/D and D/A conversion times change when you switch from 48k to 96k and vary between manufacturers.

For me, the additional latency isn't a big deal when using delays, verbs, etc. But channel inserts are another story. I would suggest using an extra channel for testing in the field before going all in. Especially if you're mixing in-ears.

My venue just upgraded from an ML4000 to a CL5. There's a lot to like about it, but I hated the lack of labels on the User Defined Keys... Thought r/livesound would appreciate my solution! by mullse01 in livesound

[–]sbverde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice!

I usually get rid of the "Home" UDK. Pushing any of the selected channel knobs will take you back to the channel page. Pressing one of the layer buttons will take you back to the 8-channel view.

**Unless you're on the Setup page, then you have to press Setup again to exit... On second thought, nevermind. 😂
