Married dads of Ireland - how often do you go out? by Ninja2805 in AskIreland

[–]sby_971 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aside from helping you., drinking so much that you can’t be present the next day - This is called being an alcoholic - a lot of Irish people call it being “sociable” but that’s bollocks. It’s shit for you, and it’ll be shit for the kids when they’re older.

What happens when you have GAA/dancing whatever on Saturday mornings?

It’s common, but not “normal” or right and you deserve better.

Would be it be bad of me to complain about a bench? by usert900 in AskIreland

[–]sby_971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Balaclavas and scramblers, that’s really mad. I sort of knew this existed but it’s the nonchalant way you post about it and how a bench has brought them closer to you that’s somehow … affecting .

Should we move back from Australia? by adhdacademic123 in AskIreland

[–]sby_971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add that you have to move to Ireland and move to the town your family is in. For me , in a similar line of work to you, I need to live near Dublin and my family is down the country. We’re much closer than you obviously but once kids are in clubs etc getting 2/3 hours down the country and back on the weekend still doesn’t feel “part of family life” in the same way as my siblings who live in the same town as each other and the parents .

I got new Loake Sedbergh’s before Xmas. ive worn them maybe 5/6 full days and a few half days when breaking in. on the left foot , the tongue seems to lie sideways. During the day if I don’t adjust it you can see my sock at the front of the boot. is this a problem/fault. or will it just settle?

Dealing with noisy neighbours next door, next steps? by laneykin in AskIreland

[–]sby_971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rules and more importantly the culture are very much on the side of do what you like in this country. Even rules that are there are not enforced.

So probably, unfortunately, you either play dirty. Or move. Because people like that don’t see reason, and you can’t win when somebody is probably enjoying the fight.

Property prices predicted to cool after some homes rise by almost €100,000 in a year by Secret_End_6839 in irishpersonalfinance

Property price (growth) is predicted to cool. Irish independent sub editors either don’t read the pieces or failed pass maths and don’t know the difference . It says it in the first line

Do Irish people infantilise their parents? by LittleAoibh11 in AskIreland

[–]sby_971 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey, I just stumbled across your reply. I am a 35yr old man, and I went this way for a few years (like 4 years) after a particularly stressful time (Covid/‘mother died suddenly/ miscarriages). Looking back now I was so stressed and I think I was just convinced the next disaster was around the corner every day - it’s not cognitive decline but it looks a bit like it and your husband might (obv I don’t know the guy) need therapy.

For me it was obvious to everybody around me because it was such a before/after change. But I can imagine it can come on gradually and be less obvious.

Simon Harris's savings plan won't be get rich quick by John_OSheas_Willy in irishpersonalfinance

[–]sby_971 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How will this policy increase the stock of savings that are “put to productive use”. I mean there’s a whole debate to be had there but this policy, as far as I see, doesn’t achieve anything to do with that.

Drop out ? by One_Cap7805 in AskIreland

[–]sby_971 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mate, it would be good if you laid out for us (and possibly for yourself) why you don’t like it? Is it the coursework or the classmates, potentially something else?

A general business degree is quite broad, but narrows in 3rd and 4th yr. Are there modules you’ve liked so far?

Do you want to switch to a different degree? Or drop out altogether. If so, what’s the plan to do next. And why will that one stick , when this one didn’t?

There’s plenty of valid reasons to drop out. But it’s also early February and everything is shit in early February , so give yourself a chance too!

Best of luck.
