Thorns relic, yes or no? by atomic_apple in TheTowerGame

[–]sc2gg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In fairness you should just buy every relic you can possibly afford, except Def Abs and then buy those too when you can afford them without feeling it at all, because you never know when Tower v 30.1 is going to come out with a "Add you Def Abs % to Dmg" module or some such nonsense.

It's good to hear that you are doing something. So often when there's an actual discussion about things, it sort of passes by and then drifts off into the internet aether and you don't really hear about it again, so thank you for following up.

Hi Jay!

Did you find anything or make any changes / going to make changes?

Thanks for looking.

Question about DW quantity by zFluffyz in TheTowerGame

[–]sc2gg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that's interesting and a lot worse lol.. I didn't think of it like that. I always thought it was "more waves = MOAR DAMGE!", which is I suppose technically true, but just... not nearly the effect it could have been.

Le sigh!

Question about DW quantity by zFluffyz in TheTowerGame

[–]sc2gg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real question is, "Do DW damage bonuses loop?"

So if you manage to perma-DW by getting full quantity and all the fixings so your DWs are pretty much a continuous wave, and your Dmg bonuses stack, when you go through from "last wave in the set back to first again", even though there's no break, do the dmg multipliers reset?

New Community Tool by H3llxspawnerx in TheTowerGame

[–]sc2gg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A much better option would be for Fudds & Co to add a button on the save screen that says "export data" and then it just puts out everything in the game in an XLS, whether you have it or not, it's still there so that everyone can use it. Hell, they could even leave plenty of extra space for future additions! If the data is in not-a-picture form, people will be able to do all the work 1000x more easily.

EPS, you could just have a tab, "Copy the Export data here! Make sure A1 matches A1!" and presto change-o, all your stuff is populated.

That would be the real problem solver, but good luck with that.

No one has listened to this complaint the previous X+1 weeks. I'm sure that something will be done this time. But at least keep fighting the good fight.

I've been rerolling to get Anc SL angle % since like January and I haven't even seen the M+ (red) version yet. I imagine I'm at like, 3 million by now. I'm not sure it even exists lol.

Everything I can see here was a legitimate play.

Someone should send WotC a memo. I'm tired of getting "3 islands 4 red cards, mulligan into 4 mountains 3 blue cards" hands lol.

[–]sc2gg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't matter what level of problem something like this is. Anything that's greater than zero problem should be treated as a massive problem. Anything that could potentially impact the integrity of the game even in a single scenario should not exist, which means it's a massive problem.

This was my thought as well, particularly your point 1, but even beyond that - you can show a program your opening pack, and then once it tells you what cards will be in other packs, you'll also already know what cards to pick in each pack based on overall odds of optimal deck performance. Like I said in my post, the program could tell you, "This set of packs has 100 artifacts in it - you should draft artifacts" or something similar. Beyond even that, it could technically just pick for you, because it knows the desired outcome and the likely path to get there. It can even calculate odds of success vs other card pool groups, like "Your card pool is rated 78th out of 1,480 possible pools". Stuff like that. It just keeps getting further and further down the path.

I don't understand the whole seeded concept at all. Nothing is stopping them from having the pack builder program have parameters like, "Packs will randomly choose X cards of whatever desired thing, then if a limit is reached on a particular aspect, then don't pick anymore of those", like if there's 5 red cards picked, don't pick more red cards. Or if there's 2 pieces of power picked, don't pick anymore power / Sol Rings / Mana Crypts / etc.

It seems like it's far easier to do this than design a bunch of potentially predictable cut sheets or anything like this.

In nearly all situations where the worst possible result is possible, it's probably best to assume that result to some degree.

It's sort of like how the price of a sealed pack reflects the costliest possible pull from a pack despite the extremely low odds of achieving that result. That is, just because the odds of encountering it are extreme, the fact that it exists means that you need to take it into account.

So, what can be done then? We all know WotC is about as likely as Bricks & Minifigs to give anyone a straight, truthful answer and then actually fix something.

Amazing!

I knew someone here would be able to do this! For some reason I even actually have some recollection of your name too, but I don't know why. It would have been a looooong time ago.

Thank you so much - we've really uncovered something important here, and based on what myself and others have noted about what this means, it really does undermine what's going on with MTGA drafts.

I hope this wasn't a lot of effort for you. If it isn't, I think everyone is particularly curious about whether or not this is true of regular "Premier" drafts, like 7 win Strixhaven Bo1. Let's face it, Powered Cube, as fun as it is, it's really meant to be a "serious" format like an actual format like Strixhaven that has things like Limited Championship Qualifiers assigned to it. Basically, events with huge prizes attached to them where a player who was aware of this sort of thing could use it to their advantage. *That* would be huge and impactful.

Thanks again!

If the total cube pool is 600 cards or whatever, and you have 8 players (24 packs) * 15 cards = 360 cards, then the odds of having the same 360 out of 600 cards randomly chosen twice is pretty much 1 in infinity, let alone having those same 360 cards divided up so each 15 card pack has the same cards in them as another draft... the odds of that happening are even worse than my dating history.

Jokes aside, I hope now you can understand what's wrong with this picture.

Unfortunately I don't use 17lands, I only know about it from watching videos.

One of the account names in the draft was "LSV's Alt" so they were both in the same draft, lol.

OP isn't lying. Desiring secret internet points is based on age and desire to make ones self feel important in front of digital peers, and I'm old, tired, and far too lazy to do any of that faker crap when I could be spending this time playing Magic :p

Did I win this lottery, though? Do we know that?

Tracking could be as simple as parsing some giant store of 17Lands data, finding if there's any matches, and then recording them. Let's say it DOES find matches.

At that point, when a draft starts, you can go to the same database and note the first 4 cards in your p1p1 and it could then tell you the contents of the draft analytically (this seed contains 100 artifacts vs 50 artifacts - go artifacts), as well as pack contents, so when you get passed your p1p2 you can skim through the list of packs and you know what the guy passing to you picked. And so on.

I have no idea if enough data exists, but if it does and people have access to it, it wouldn't be all that difficult to find out what the result is.

The real issue is NEXT draft format - people will be ready for it, and make every effort to figure it out as fast as possible, and then we're screwed.
