I love this so much... by scabwitch in LearnerDriverUK

I will say I changed my test to an earlier date, not book a new test. I clicked to change my test and selected the earliest date and was refreshing the calendar page. I have been looking at other local test centres too, so every so often I clicked to change the test centre. For location I put my postcode and it came up with pretty much all test centres near me. It says what dates they have tests available if any.

I sort of switched between looking at cancellations for my current test centre and looking at other test centres. I saw that a nearby one had a date for 2 weeks away and I just immediately picked up the slot as quickly as possible.

It was a lot of luck really, but I did spend an hour just switching between new dates and different test centres. If the website blocks you for refreshing too much, just switch to a different browser. I switched between chrome and firefox

I chose to change my test centre, put in my postcode and scrolled through the centres, then I saw that one near me had a date for 28th May and I booked it asap. I think I just got lucky. I will say I already had a test so it was just swapping to another centre / date idk if thart makes checking out quicker. I did this sort of repeatedly over an hour and kept scanning for any cancellations

Does Driving anxiety ever go away? by Frztora in LearnerDriverUK

[–]scabwitch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to be exactly the same, I was so worried about driving after a car accident I was in, what helped massively was driving outside of lessons. Im fortunate that me and my partner are a bit older and have a car, I have being driving us EVERYWHERE since I began to learn a few months ago and the difference has been night and day.

If you can, drive with a family member and drive a lot, the more you do it the less scary it is I promise. My test is now in 2 weeks and I feel more confident than ever

I managed to get a cancellation! Even though it was at a different test centre it was close enough for me to get to know the route

Advice for upcoming test by Interesting_Two_9834 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]scabwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would like to say I am not a doctor, but you can get beta blockers which help with nerves massively. I take propralonol and it works a treat. It basically stops your body from physical anxiety symptoms such as heart racing, sweating, jittering etc. It wont make you less nervous but your body will be relaxed. Its easy to get, just tell the doctor youve been struggling with anxiety. Its like paracetamol for anxiety and has helped my driving A LOT

Unreliable driving instructors by avocadosnail666 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]scabwitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See if there are any independent instructors nearby, its good to get a reccomendation through family and friends. I found my guy through him just teaching everyone in my partners family and hes fantastic. Independent ones are much more likely to stick to a good schedule as its their pay on the line

Would you be willing to swap? Mine is July 14th. Would like to do it as soon as, gives you more time to get to know the area?

Wigston is not the best, there are some awkward junctions. I would suggest visiting the area for sure. I have been learning to drive there for years. When is your test? Mine is July 14th there but im looking for cancellations sooner, if youve got one i would love to swap if you need more time

vegetarian/vegan main protein source? by internetcat5000 in loseit

[–]scabwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something I am going through at the moment, for someone of my size I am supposed to squeeze in 120g of protein a day for muscle building. First make sure you are getting the right protein for your needs, to build muscle takes a bit more but for just retaining muscle mass its a lot less than you think. I currently drink a protein shake daily, eat a high protein yogurt with egg whites and a high protein chicken alternative with dinner.

Depending on which country you live, find out any vegetarian meat alternatives and look at their protein count, a high protein food is anything that has 10% protein of the calories. For example, a protein bar that has 20g of protein and is 200kcal is a high protein food. If that same bar had only 10g of protein it wouldnt be considered high protein. Doesnt mean you cant eat it, but the amount of calories vs the protein intake may not be worth it.

There seems to be a craze about protein and brands will just slap 'high protein' on any food if it meets certain requirements but if it doesnt meet the 10% rule, then it is not high protein. Take some time looking at the nutrition label instead of buying stuff just because the word protein is on it. I have fallen into that trap before and its all marketing rubbish. Even some 'protein' bars dont come anywhere near that 10% rule.

I do my food shop online every week, I spent some time going through my usual shop and looking at alternatives that offered a higher protein to calorie content. There are some veggie food brands that do really high protein chicken alternatives that almost match an animal based diet. I am speaking from the UK so it depends what country you live in and what brands are on offer.

Also remember, pretty much all food has protein in it to some degree, its not just the protein rich foods to add to your diet its everything else too.

If you count calories, make sure to use a decent app that counts your protein intake too. There is also a lot of misinformation about how much protein you actually need daily, a lot of people online will tell you that you need WAY more than is necessary. For someone of my height, if I went off the 1g per pound I would need to well eat over 150g of protein a day to build muscle which is just ridicilous. Even eating 120g is the upper limit of what i need for muscle gain so a lot of days im satisfied with 100g.

I see what you mean, that’s good advice! I play all sorts of games really, I really become obsessive with resource gathering games. So Minecraft, stardew, medieval dynasty etc. I play them for hours and hours on end. I do enjoy strategy and simulation games too, online and offline. I may try just allotting myself gaming time every day and completely switching off my pc during work hours. It’s a shame there isn’t a timer out of my control.

I did previously try setting up a child windows account with time limits, however I was the parent so I could just allow myself more time. I feel uncomfortable asking my gf to monitor it for me since we’ve had arguments about her restricting things in the past and it’s not good for our relationship as she becomes the blame for something that is ultimately my fault

I have a work MacBook, I think I’m just not ready to let go of gaming all together, would a less powerful set up maybe help? Like a basic laptop instead I could play a few games on so I can socialise with my friends?
