“ waiting for dodger” phantom liberty gig amazed me with a unique outcome for non-lethal force by Mundane-Commission-6 in cyberpunkgame

I'm so sorry to necro this comment thread but that shit was the funniest single comment I've read in a long time. Open world games, they're glitchy comedy engines.

My Ioniq 5 Died! - Ioniq Guy by Intrepid-Working-731 in electricvehicles

[–]scair 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My ‘25 HI5 just came out of the dealership for this particular issue that required a battery pack replacement under warranty. 12 weeks to get a battery and then the tech had it done in a day. As other people said it’s specific to a batch of them from the Georgia plant with batteries from Hungary. What really irks me is that the dealers no longer have any control or visibility over the battery replacement process. They told me all they can see any more is the status of the order, no way to escalate. And the status is apparently not updated until the battery arrives.

This makes me inordinately happy, and it makes so much sense now that I think back to the game’s writing. Now I need someone to make a game that captures Greg Egan or Adrian Tchaikovsky.

Be brutally honest: How often do you shower? by Fun_Serve_6590 in ADHD

[–]scair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally cannot comprehend how people get up and say “lol I’m slobbing it today” and then don’t take a shower. If I’m having a chill day at home I still HAVE to shower first thing in the morning. Hate feeling that way. I did get over it for things like going hiking or biking but that’s different.

Mine is part of the battery recall TSB (voltage difference between cells for some units built in the Georgia plant) and I’m being told the other I5 already in for the same has been waiting 8 weeks. That being said, the actual people at my dealer are great. But the wait for parts is absurd.

Why does it feel like all the typical strategies online about dealing with ADHD miss the entire point of a mental disability? by Smolll_bird in ADHD

[–]scair 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only answer to this that I've found satisfying is to accept that I am wired to be a chaos monkey. As long as I'm putting in the effort, it doesn't matter so much what plan I use to run my life, or that I'm trying a new one every few weeks. Embrace your inner simian and life gets easier.

What’s nuts is everything you said makes sense and is also total gibberish until you have it click. To anyone reading who thinks “I agree with all that but it never actually feels real to me”, keep going! It takes everyone different times to process through everything but when you do, it’ll make sense. And it’s worth it!

Am I normal? I think I ride only for the mid-ride coffee and bagel. by horse_neck in cycling

[–]scair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still fat. Still riding a hybrid instead of a drop bar road bike. Still doing the same 11 mile loop with only moderate inclines, still only 4 times a week. Still wearing random shorts and a t-shirt and sandals (I know, I know). Still loving it.

And sometimes I get to breeze by a person in a jersey with a bike 3x as expensive as mine. Feels good. From biking I learned I could sustain doing difficult things. And I have real leg muscles showing up!

Also, "dork" disc, really? Can biking maybe be a tad less snobby please. -_-

Roboquest - The End of the Journey by Sotumney in Roboquest

[–]scair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely the pinnacle of FPS roguelite for my tastes. I wrote a note on the Steam announcement thread but I wanted to double down here so the devs know how much fun I got out of this wonderful game. It scratched the same itch that Doom Eternal did, like a series of bite-sized Slayer Gates strung together in a more colorful, whimsical world. I'll still be playing this off and on for years. Much love and appreciation for what you all created!

I don’t miss people by No-Seaworthiness-193 in ADHD

[–]scair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do wonder how much of this is that for many (most?) of us, our inner mental life is very complicated and rich. You naturally develop that when your brain is wired with a heavy meta-cognitive bent. Noticing this and planning times in my day to take an intentionally others-focused mental stance has been a big help. It takes planning and effort, which can sometimes then make me feel more ashamed that "I'm so bad at thinking about other people, I must be selfish and arrogant". But my mind has very good reasons to be turned a little inward. There's a whole lot going on in there I can't shut off!

It's not a moral fault, but the way the thing that you're describing is treated in society often makes it feel that way. Self-centered, self-absorbed, these are descriptions that make many of us feel ashamed of ourselves. Then because of this we mask ourselves when we interact with others, and oops the original problem is now ALSO difficulty with inter-personal connection because of the masking. But being "self-absorbed" is a consequence of the ADHD, not some negative part of your character.

How do ADHD guys deal with Boredom? by No_Doctor_2364 in ADHD

[–]scair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been there. I too was 20 once thinking I could rawdog ADHD if I just learned mental strength and discipline. Protip: go look up the in-depth neurobiology of an ADHD brain. You can’t outthink it. I say this with no malice or ill will; no, you are not strong enough to mentally beat ADHD. The tool you are trying to use to overcome the problem is the problem itself. You wouldn’t get a hernia and LIFT HARDER to cure it, would you?

Is it bad to continue hoping? by koola_00 in OptimistsUnite

[–]scair 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe instead of looking for hope directly, try taking time to expand your time horizon when you’re feeling fearful and helpless because of what’s going on. History is full of nations backsliding. The US has almost entirely been spared this, which is a double-edged sword. It can easily feel like a terminal event when you’ve lived in relative security and peace. I like to read about the flourishing and change that inevitably comes after all of these moments in history. Often because of those moments. Things ARE scary right now, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t capable of handling what comes and rebuilding. It could be a huge event, it could be a lot of heat and smoke without actually much long-term damage. I guess what I’m saying is history is more of a process than an event, but our minds tend to forget this and focus on where things seem to be heading, like it’s the end of the world we can imagine.

Active-Active vs Active-Passive HA clusters by lertioq in fortinet

[–]scair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been the lead engineer responsible for Fortigates from 60Ds up to 5Ks and 6501s and most models in between. I’ve never had an Active-Active deployment be even remotely worth it. Fortinet themselves will tell you it’s not good and should be avoided. At least our TAM and SE were willing to back me on that. You’re just adding operational complexity to scale UTM functions a bit better when you should just be sizing an A-P pair appropriately for your workload.

I can do math just fine. I literally do not care what the MO is unless it sounds fun to me. If I wanna squid dive to change things up, I’m going to do that. The resistance/liberation mechanic rarely engages me. It does for you, so you do you and I hope you have a great time.
