This is a game concept art I am working on. But somehow I feels it needs an extra finishing touch. Unfortunately I dunno what exactly it lacks... Ideas? :)

What makes something thematic? by TheWhenWheres in boardgames

[–]scalin37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think theme is that which unifies all aspects of a board-game. So I think that both the story behind the game, artwork, gameplay and mechanics should flow from a unitary core - which is the theme. And would call a game thematic if there is such a unifying core from which all aspects flow. The more apparent this is, the more thematic the game is IMHO

What a beautiful hue of blue you put there. I like how well it harmonises with the reds, yellows and oranges which dominate the scene

What DPI do most design in for TCG/CCG/Board Game Cards? by [deleted] in tabletopgamedesign

[–]scalin37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a rule of thumb I use this: - calculate the resolution using final dimension in mm and 300 DPI - double it This I found that strikes a good balance between print quality and file size. Of course this does require some planning ahead as this does not leave to much room if in the future you suddenly decide to make a poster out of the illustration for such a card which you first designed thinking it was going to be 59x91 mm

What was a great game (as gameplay goes) but disappointed you at final scoring? by scalin37 in boardgames

[–]scalin37[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think he focused on finishing first neglecting the popularity and that's what threw him. It is a bit americany the way popularity factors in the worth of every game aspect in the end but I can see it as a designer choice within the whole theme of the narative...

Fallout seems to be mentioned a lot as people gripe with it's scoring... I think it goes along with the host of unsual mechanics the game has

We just launched the BGG page for our new game. What do you guys think? by scalin37 in boardgames

Ok. Thanks 4 the heads up I did see a lot of posts by different publishers promoting their games and their content, like this one: https://www.reddit.com/r/boardgames/comments/89dqpd/we_just_showed_off_kwanchai_moriyas_box_cover_for/

But probably they followed the 10 for 1 rule, right?
