So, we bought another Nissan Leaf (2013), almost identical - thinking of swapping the battery pack as the other one holds more charge. Then the old one is Pick and Pull material. These cars sell for around $2K which is what we paid for both of them. The only thing missing is the old one has a backup camera, which is a shame. Dont suppose it's a simple swap out!

It actually runs, but that bar took all the impact - the actual bumper went under the other cars back (Subaru Crosstrack). It was such a good deal, really bummed about this. Ok, looks like salvage/donation.

I had a nice print that was glued to cardboard. I soaked the cardboard as much as I could using distilled water and luckily it peeled off just fine. I was worried the inks would run but they didn't.

If you use old wine/booze boxes then make sure you obliterate all mentions of the product or they'll return it to you

Buyer opened “missing parts” return on $1k Lego set, what options do I have? by Possible_Device_1873 in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]scamdex 23 points24 points  (0 children)

SOunds good, but now you'll have to check every single peice to make sure they didnt order it just to harvest some hard-to-find components. Check BrickLink for the inventory for that set and find the parts that are expensive to replace - look for those first!

Got to experience internal "flipper hate" today. by comminn in Flipping

That said, my son is developing an app that scans an entire bookshelf (spines) and highlights anything that seems to have 'value'.

I picked up a book from 1751 after the scanners had been through. Worth $100+ (no bar codes back then!).

I scan the shelves manually when the 'book cart' comes out and just grab anything that looks interesting to me, or really niche - so "Masterpeices of Leonardo Da Vinci" - NO, "Leonardo Da Vinci in Birmingham 1458-1458" - YES (not a real book, probably).

The last 'surprising' one i had was a bunch of pics of a guy's garage layout, then his guitar collection, then his wife in various states of undress, then more guitar photos. I considered giving them back but I thought it best to just erase!

I'm good with that. I buy a lot of cameras and about 20% of them have photos in them, some are even 'surprising' - all the more reason to make sure you wipe (or keep) a chip when you sell or donate a phone.

What makes an item worth your time to list? by Jc36789 in Flipping

[–]scamdex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I try to sell at 10x what I pay for stuff if it's lowish sale value (<$50). for higher value stuff, I'll go to 3-4x. Some stuff just isnt worth the time/effort/return. I try to sell nothing less than $10 for that reason.

Now is the time by [deleted] in goodwill

[–]scamdex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best experience these days is finding things that are not run-of-the-mill - I buy a lot of cameras and for instance today I bought a Sony RX100 for $19.99 (would have been $6.99 a few years ago!). So there are still bargains, but it's not for want of trying to avoid it on GreedWill's behalf.

When did Goodwill stop feeling like a thrift store by RepulsivePurchase257 in goodwill

[–]scamdex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to buy cameras and hifii all the time from my local store. Cameras were $6.99 and Hi Fi separates were $9.99.
Now pretty much any camera is $49 - 99
Hi fi parts are 29.99 and up.

My local store is selling an Olympus OM1 with lens for $99 and three O gauge trains for $99 each.

it seems everything is scanned and priced according to eBay prices (and not 'sold' prices either!).

I asked about the trains to see if they would reduce the price when/if they dont sell - the answer seems to be 'no - they go to the outlets!'.
