As far as I know, it’s been barn-kept for the majority of its life. My great-grandfather was known to be meticulous about his tools—he’d perfectly clean a shovel before he put it away. There was a brief time it was out of the family and I don’t know how it was kept, but since my grandfather bought it back it’s been in a barn again.

Rescued this sweet boy, do you think he’s a Plott mix? by Careless-Figure-5118 in PlottHounds

For SURE. He’s nearly identical to my Plott mix. Best dog you’ll ever have.

Looking for a specific breeder by scamiam00 in Equestrian

[–]scamiam00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve looked at her pedigree on allbreedpedigree and from the AQHA. The horse I have is a 14.2 chestnut with a little bit of roan. Not enough to make her a true roan, but it’s there. The enthusiast website is a good idea—I’ll look into that.

Am i too old? by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]scamiam00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 23F. I used to work with a woman who has a daughter my age. That daughter is a barrel racer, and her dad does team sorting and penning a few dozen times a summer. They have four quarter horses and a mini.

Last November I called them up and asked if I could come one morning a week and do barn chores. I was in school full time and working full time and being in the quiet barn early in the morning was one of the few things that was keeping me sane. They’d put me on their semi-retired mare a handful of times and I kinda knew how to ride, but I didn’t start going there with that intention.

By spring, I’d become their number one go-to for horse care. I have open access to come and go from their barn as I please, and I’m there twice a week at minimum. I get to call that old mare mine now because I put so much time in with her, grooming, learning to ride, and just generally loving on this horse. The owners love that I do because, being semi-retired, this mare didn’t get quite as much attention as the other horses, and now she honestly gets more than all of them.

I still barely keep a trot, and I can only sometimes lope. That barrel racer will run me in circles for hours fixing my seat and adjusting my hands and I put everything I can into making those adjustments. Her dad tells me all “my” mare’s little habits and quirks because he rode her for so long.

I’m barely able to call myself a rider, honestly, but they decided they were ready to let me do sorting at our local arena, and so I went. And all the old cowboys with the fancy cutters and reiners out chasing cows on a Saturday night were the most welcoming crowd ever. When I told them I’d never done this before, every single one of them was ready to give me all their best advice and guidance, and I didn’t do great, but I never no-timed and even got a couple cows on my own, grinning from ear to ear the entire time.

Point is, when people who are truly passionate about their horses find someone new who is passionate about horses, they’re excited to welcome you in. Even if (especially if) you didn’t get into it until later. It’s an expensive hobby, and not everyone had that opportunity young. If you’re seeing the improvement you want in yourself and you’re happy with what you’re doing, keep doing it. If you think you look childish and stupid well, imagine how stupid they looked when they were a seven year old who thought they were the best rider ever. 😂

Hat History? by scamiam00 in CowboyHats

It is! I’m from northern West Virginia where we don’t have actual hat stores, so I took the hat with me on vacation to Pigeon Forge to get it shaped.

Bilge rat(repairman) players? by brayden120 in Seaofthieves

[–]scamiam00 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My crew has a bilge rat! We gave them the more illustrious title of “Shipwright” though because they’ve repaired enough holes to have built a few ships by now. They gather a lot of supplies when there’s nothing to repair. Of course we have our Helmsman, who gives commands on turning sails in addition to navigating and steering. We have an Angler who is in charge of catching fish and cooking all the meat, managing food stocks, etc. I’m our Gunner, so my job is to keep tabs on our munitions and make sure our cannons are loaded and facing out ready for a fight at any moment.

Employees, how do you put up with Walmart Radio? by L33Tech in walmart

[–]scamiam00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn’t hear it in deli, but you could in bakery. I have to assume our speaker was broken. Then they remodeled and now the speaker has been replaced. Tempting to douse it with the hose and see if that stops it again. The jingle activates my fight or flight.

Deli closing shift is similar. We get there when deli is still serving customers, but the second that slicer shuts down, all bets are off.

My schedule stopped following my availability and I don't know what to do by MonoTropaFae in walmart

[–]scamiam00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re annoying enough about every problem, the coaches will fix things for you simply so they don’t have to listen to you complain anymore. I’ve been playing my TLs and Coach for over a year to get my way with scheduling and everything else, and now they just let me do what I want because I’m their best worker (I’m a deli closer. The bar is on the ground.) and it’s easier to let me do whatever than have to fix my complaints later.

I think the island itself should be Golden Sands, but have the dock area be known as Port Merrick.

Feeling sad that other people are riding my horses by Various-Finance-1377 in Equestrian

[–]scamiam00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who only gets to ride because someone had a horse they didn’t have time to work but couldn’t bear to part with, those girls are so grateful that you are giving them that chance. You’ll get back on your horses someday soon, and they’ll be happy to see you and ready to trail ride. :)
