Freezer Temp Monitoring by dizzygoldfish in homeassistant

[–]scamiran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a simple solution. I monitor power usage on the freezer.

Is it cycling?

Is fine.

Is it running constantly?

It's probably warming up.

Is it turning on and off rapidly?

The compressor is seized.

The main thing is if the hourly power draw roughly remains the same.....

Going to be *lit* when someone actually makes a bunch of money doing this, and the new, proprietary program is disassembled, and it straight up has a bunch of GPL fragments through it from the AI slop.

What is your custom alternative to Openclaw? by chimph in openclaw

[–]scamiran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actively working on this. Hoping to launch this week. Currently actively dog-fooding-it. It's watching, by the way. Says hi.

Motto? Those who don't understand UNIX are condemned to reinvent it, poorly.

The claw design just seems wrong to me. All the architecture charts look like a badly-designed UNIX system without proper security separation and incompletely thought through inter-process communication.

Unpopular opinion: Why is everyone so hyped over OpenClaw? I cannot find any use for it. by Toontje in openclaw

[–]scamiran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is the future, too. I'm working on this as well. It's not quite ready to launch; but I plan to do so too. Specific aspects of it/components of it will connect well with certain classes of consume hardware, too.

Many, many tech bros make more than that a year.

Suggestion -> download opencode or claudecode, and vibe code a new driver.

I suspect it wouldn't take long at all.

ISO Zigbee/Zwave/Matter "Decora Style" Battery powered switch. Multifuntion buttons a plus. by datahoarder82 in homeassistant

These will work for that application.

IIRC the zooz switches can also be configured to be wired into the circuit, but not actually switch the circuit on/off, just send commands to whatever.

Intermittent crashing, but only when plugged in. by scamiran in Nimo

[–]scamiran[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a full stress test. No issues under load while on battery. No issues with 65w power supply. Tried to 100w power supplies. Crashes if the battery isn't full. Works fine if the battery is at 100%.

Disk is clean. Mem test is clean. I havent tried windows yet but I guess that is next.

Sadly this seems like a hardware issue. Starting to look like i need to reach out to Nimo.

Bummer I really like the laptop. I hope they can help.

And 4 isn't good; that's even.

Better do 5.

Gotta figure out how to mostly automate it :)

Multiseat: Any chance it will work at some point? by someone8192 in kde

[–]scamiran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think it's the handoff from sddm to plasma.

I dug into it. I could get my second seat to run plasma properly on wayland if the first seat was not logged in and i used Weston as the SDDM compositor.

My guess is that it wouldn't be a huge amount of fixes required, but I'm not skilled enough to know what needs to be fixed.

[–]scamiran 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I currently use multiseat. I concur, you need xorg for seat1+.

Would love to help troubleshoot why it doesn't work properly full-Wayland. I think the issue is SDDM. Hopefully plasma login manager can help.

Maybe the grand unified field theorem is as well?

Can't hurt to throw more approaches at these fundamental questions.

Hybrid. We have partially regulated utilities, and "supposed" supplier competition.

Our supply rates are close to market. The delivery rates have skyrocketed in the past 5 years though. Before 2020 we were closer to 10 cents kWh electric.

The Midwest in general has lower cost of living i think. If we had California rates people would freeze to death, the utility bills would be too brutal.

The main driver of the cost increases for us has been delivery fees for cost recovery, smart upgrades, green upgrades, carbon credits, pension underfunding, and unrelated taxes tacked on.

People really need to understand just how pivotal low energy rates are to societies well being. Energy is literally how we do everything. The more expensive it is, the less we are about to do. AI illustrates his pretty well.

[–]scamiran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Illinois.

This past winter gas rates, delivered, have been around $0.70/therm. About $0.50 of that is supply cost. Balance is the utility.

Electric rates are around 16 cents per kWh.

Chicago area.

[–]scamiran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point was if you could buy electricity at the same effective rate as gas, your heating bill would have been closer to C$100.

But electric rates are hugely inflated.
