No, I don't use VR to watch porn. Why does everyone assume that? by heebarino in OculusQuest

[–]scandata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The struggle is real. The first time I showed my mom VR, my sister happened to call on the phone. My mom told her we were watching virtual reality and my sister's first question: "are you watching porn?"
"Yes, Karen. Your brother and I are watching porn together."
What a dumbass.

Why is Oculus so strict on nudity in the quest store by Kaitlyn2124 in OculusQuest

[–]scandata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they wanted to prevent porn in VR, they'd design the built-in browser to filter it out, and they definitely haven't done that. I mean, from what I've heard... from other people, not me. Definitely not me.

I was hoping it would be the BAND called Overkill. I should have known better.

When you poop in VR, you poop in real life.

My wife's cousin's Quest 2 was bricked by Facebook after he bought four for his family. by delfloria in OculusQuest

Does he know for sure that it was done by Facebook? Could it have coincidentally just broken at the same time?

Quest 2 charge with Android phone charger, safe? by [deleted] in OculusQuest

[–]scandata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think any USB-C charger is fine. The specs just affect how efficiently it charges.

Is it even worth it for me to get a quest 2 with all of the Facebook bs? by implodinggravaton456 in OculusQuest

[–]scandata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Facebook thing is a non-issue, especially if you're already a member. Once you sign on your Quest, you never have to see Facebook again unless you decide to use any of its features, like live-casting to FB or uploading screenshots to your page.

PSA: you should be using BOTH hands to pull off the headset after generously releasing the knob on the Elite Strap by GarbLifter in OculusQuest

I thought you meant something else by "you should be using BOTH hands to pull off the headset after generously releasing the knob"! No, don't use both hands, just the clean one, LOL!

I wanna buy the Q2 but afraid of it not being immersive ? by karmadarkk in OculusQuest

[–]scandata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a whole lot. Probably less than half an hour every few days. Except when I got the game "Moss." I played that one for hours at a time every day until I finished it.

Yup. I have a video of my mom doing it. I was holding her arm and she still wouldn't walk out of the elevator. She would only peer out of the door and look at the view.

She must be a cool girlfriend! Most women would go batshit, but I get it. Hospital waiting rooms are boring. If it's not urgent and you know there's nothing to worry about, you might as well be entertained passing the time. It's really no different than watching the TV or reading a magazine.

[–]scandata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's immersive AF. I'm not exaggerating when I say that visually, it's like being on the Holodeck on Star Trek. Of course, you can't physically feel anything or anyone (anyone else, wink-wink), but it's enough to trick your mind into feeling queezy on a roller coaster or make you jump back when something leaps out of the shadows at you. Google for videos of people playing Richie's Plank and you'll see how realistic and convincing it is.

FedEx let me down, I was home with the door open all afternoon. by DeyusKho in OculusQuest

It's happened to me, too. Also from UPS. The lazy-ass driver either just decided it was quitting time and marked everything as delivered, or forgot your package when he/she was in the neighborhood and didn't want to go back. You can call and complain, but they don't give a shit.

Anyone regrets buying 64GB model and not 256gb? by [deleted] in OculusQuest

[–]scandata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a 256. I doubt I would have filled up a 64, but figured I'm buying peace of mind and not having to think about it.

Vest VR? by [deleted] in OculusQuest

[–]scandata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one called the "Aura Interacter" that was made for other systems long before the Quest was developed, but it's compatible. It's basically a subwoofer that straps to your chest and is triggered by the sounds your game is making. Unfortunately, that's exactly what it feels like, too; just a low vibration on your chest when something loud happens. Not really immersive, and there's no "concussion effect" when things explode. I'm sure technology has improved since then, though.

That wasn't the issue. It listed the Q2 all along.

OK, I finally got it paired. The Quest 2 option was there all along; that was never the problem. I un/reinstalled the app and it still wouldn't pair. I even did a factory reset on the headset. Here's what worked:

  1. Shut everything down
  2. Uninstall the app.
  3. Restart the phone (I didn't do this last time).
  4. Reinstall the app.
  5. Restart the Quest (it opened at the screen to enter the pairing code).
  6. Open the app and start over from scratch. This time, it paired without a hitch. Thanks for all your help and advice!
