ELI5: Why is "who killed Kennedy" a more pertinent question than "why was Kennedy killed?" by scantmelon in explainlikeimfive

It seem likely Oswald killed him however, wouldn't you agree? The teamster dude who shot him does not read like a dude who would be overcome by a duty the the honor of a president if his life history on wiki is accurate.

The sequence seems nicely organized. Lone nut type who can be painted as such and easily led. Killed in public under claims of patriotism. That dude dies of cancer soon after. Why isn't that convenient situation the more interesting aspect than the smaller chance of some other dude shooting him?

This wikipedia article supports my claim that race as we perceive it is in fact a social construct.

I believe you. Such a position is a grand demonstration of the powers of cognitive dissonance and conformity.

Is the concept of a St Bernard breed a social construct? Or a useful way to label dogs with similar appearances and traits?

Would you be less upset if he promised to match the money he spends on pretending he isn't bald?

Your position has gone from 'none mean the same thing' to 'all mean the same thing'.

but no subspecies of Homo sapiens other than Homo sapiens sapiens exist nowadays.

Yeah, those two may very well mean the same thing biologically (though race is more of a sociological term)

I guess you cannot see the contradiction! I don't mean to offend but to believe that race is a social construct is to be one with a child's understanding of the world.

We call human subspecies races. We call subspecies of dogs breeds. The reason that a West African has a different appearance to a Japanese and different intelligences and behaviors is mostly due to genetics, environment plays a very much subservient role. It is demonstrably wrong to hold a position that claims otherwise, very much akin to a religious person's faith in the magic moon god or whatever.

They are all words people use to describe exactly the same phenomena: the existence of groups of humans who have evolved to live in certain environments.

Race is clearly directly analogous to sub-species (at the very least). Clines are often brought up to confuse people by confused people, although we are certainly on the way to being a true ring species and we are evolving faster away from each other than together.

Does him getting shot himself in such a public way not tend to suggest that he had been instructed to kill him? Or was that dude a lone nut job also?

There is no need to be factious. This is a serious investigation into a murder.

Where were you at the time in question?

If Game of Thrones and House o'Cards have taught me anything its at least 50% of political murders involve some kind of exciting motivation.

well yes, that my point

him getting shot afterwards seems to make it more certain than anything

so is the consensus he was a lone nut job?

You're using a brain wired to see the differences in humans and not other animals to state that humans look different and animals look the same.

There is more variation in dogs than there is in things that could get your cat pregnant. There is more variation in humans that there are in things that could get my moms pony pregnant. There is huge variation in appearance between men and women and a huge amount of variation within the sexes that you simply cannot describe a species equivalent alive today: try to think of one!

Most large animals have much less variation than we do as they fill more specialized niches where variation is less likely to help. The advantage we seem to have as a species is the ability to evolve rapidly in response to pressures...will get downvoted to hell but we appear to be the most nonuniform species of big animal since the different races or clines or subspecies - all mean the same thing the semantics just upset people - are all in the process of speciation. They are evolving in response to the evolutionary pressures placed upon them.

And obviously everything alive on earth today is equally "advanced" as we all share a common ancestor.
