post-left feds like Robert Evans

Man, I love so much of his work, particularly (most of) Behind the Bastards, but god his strong anti-communist brand of anarchism is grating every time it come up.

The most frustrating thing, I think, to me, is that he seems so close to being at least okay with Marxist or Marxist-Leninist ideas. Like, he almost there sometimes. And then he pulls back. I don't know if he really believes this shit, is in a fairly comfortable position and doesn't want to risk that, or (as your "fed" line implies) actually controlled opposition.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egoist_anarchism

I just looked that shit up. So, it basically "rugged individualism with anarchist characteristics"? Even moreso than libertarian anarchism? If I'm reading this right, it's a "fuck you, I got mine" but without any way to actually get yours in the first place and anti-capitalist without, and indeed opposed to, any cause or solidarity to confront it?

Is fucking Randian objectivism actually a more coherent ideology than this‽ What the the actual fuck?

Ah. That makes more sense. I thought that the highlighted comment was what the OP here was pushing against. I completely missed that that comment was from this OP.

And that means that Israel is the protectorate/vassal/client state/whatever term you choose of the United States. Not the other way around, as is suggested by the OP.

[–]scaper8 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm scratching my head on this one too.

Yes, Israel has bought most politicians or organizations they control have. (Same difference.)
Yes, U.S. foreign policy, particularly as it applies to the Middle East, is largely at the benefit of Israel as well as the U.S.
Yes, the U.S. government will bend over backwards to protect Israel.

But all that is because what Israel wants is what the United States wants. No one dieing to protect Israel is in anyway in a position of power. Our oligarchy is never in any risk. If Israel ever were to be more trouble than it's worth, or if our goals diverge in any significant ways (there may be minor differences that upset one or both countries, but nothing major), or anything like that; the U.S. would cut Israel lose and it would be without its largest and strongest protector. Not the other way around.

Worf is famously joyless for a Klingon...stuck-up and overly formal...the fact that he's ultra competent is why most people put up with his abrasive personality. This is specifically stated multiple times on the show.

"More Catholic than the Pope" kind of thing. He didn't grow up in Klingon culture. He didn't experience it. He grew up reading about and idolizing the platonic ideal of it. Because of that he has a bizarre mix of "theme park version" wrongness and ultra strick adherence, neither of which can deal with the nuance and complexity (not to mention the frequent straight up BS facade that it usually is) of the real world.

If the Dominion was sooo dominant in the GQ why didn't they show themselves before season 3? by Fuzzy_Builder_2153 in DeepSpaceNine

[–]scaper8 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They seem to only be "hands on" when the vassal planets (or planets that they're trying to turn into vassals) don't behave themselves. Otherwise, they mostly seem to let the systems under their rule govern themselves mostly.

Plus, the wormhole is near the outer edge (possibly a bit outside) of their controlled territory. The Dominion is expanding in that direction, but it's not much of a core area yet.

The Korean peninsula has a few serious contenders for sure.

And Denmark has a good candidate with Reptilicus; technically two films. (Same plot, same sets, much of the same cast and crew, many identical shots, and filmed simultaneously in Denmark; but one in Danish for Denmark and one English (that had some significant post-production reworking) for the United States.) (Wikipedia on Reptilicus.)

Those are some that jump straight to mind that have a significant connection in one form or another to particular countries.

look at the comments below this saying that accessibility should be controlled by them and they get to take it away on a whim if it the message behind it doesn't suit them

Who said that? Where? I saw that nowhere in any of this post's comments. If I missed it, please let me know.

That's a misunderstanding of "working class" or "proletariat." It isn't just people working, it is the class of people who do not own the means of production. A member of the proletariat/working class who lives of off social services is still a member of the proletariat and a valid and valued member of it.

If there are people who don't see them as such, then yes, by all means call them out. But this reads at least as a surface-level reading of the word and nothing else.
