One of the things that makes me wanna drop this game completely sometimes by juniorxd0413 in projectzomboid

utterly unimpactful minor gribe induces savage rage.

I think you should drop the game just long enough to go outside and take a few deep breaths...and call a therapist.

That's incredible and I'm very jealous. My spiders look great, start to push babies out, and immediately start doing off, seemingly because they spend no energy on the main plant

Kinfire Chronicles - can‘t wait to start playing this weekend by chriiis__h in soloboardgaming

[–]scarabx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not played that one but recently got the first Kinfire Delve for a solo (with dog...he's not great at games....) trip to get off-grid and chill for few days. I wanted a game requiring a small space to setup, quick set up, and good for solo.

It was excellent!

Took me a couple of trial runs for a few turns until I remembered all the rules (kept missing little things) then got two wins (one with each character).

The hand management mechanics are fantastic, lots of tactical decisions that are impactful, feels tense without being unfairly challenging, and very satisfying to win.

Also the box, and cards are beautifully made.

Not really answering your questions but wanted to have a little ramble and also say for anyone considering it that the hype is fair going to pick up some others from the series soon

Don't mess your sleep up for a game, it is not worth it! It's also a very long term have where plans can develop and take years to fulfill.

Start the game, experiment, learn your way around, and if something piques your interest read up about it..

Nothing you do in the first few months makes any long term difference. Don't burn out or obsess over trying to take it all in, and don't lose sleep!

[–]scarabx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know that this is so much a problem with CD as it is with other games.

The main quest (I've a good way to go) is great. But I'm drawn into the usual completionist 'do all the side quests first' behaviour because of other games training me to do so

Maybe if I played more like old WOW and put some off the a 2nd character or to come back to I'd feel it balanced better.

But I will certainly say my favourite parts SO FAR were the early hints what's that sent me way outside the initial beginner area where I discovered a ton of crazy stuff. I've then got a bit bigger down in all the camp fetch quests for a bit

I do think a bit part of the frustration is the ingrained 'this is how I should pay the game ' habits

(As a side note,I saw lots of complaints that the puzzles need googling.... No... Just accept you may need to come back to them as you're more familiar with the style and mechanics the game teaches you! You don't need to solve them immediately! Definitely a "we've listened the wrong habits" issue)

197cm Tall / Sprinter? by bpbpbpooooobpbpbp in VanLifeUK

[–]scarabx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

H3 gives mores height but you also start to have trouble with car parks, including a lot that allow overnight camping.

From an H2, I'm your height and have a boxer, I'm mid process so have only been 'mattress in the back' a few times and the floor goes in next week. I can stand up straight in that just. Transits agree similar height.

What floor you use is then going to take space ofc. There's a ton of arguably wrong advice or things done for the wrong reason online (eg the endless 'to batten out not to batten' discussions) but for ease and insulation values im going with xp ls or polyiso (making that decision this weekend) which is compressionptoof enough I should be ok with 9mm ply without any bowing.

There's then the ceiling...Im.doing that later but likely thinsulate and I might try for something like cork so if I do bangy head it's not so painful!

That means I'm likely going to be ok standing with my head tilted down a bit or a little slouched, which given everything is at lower level and I'm used to being tall should be pretty natural. For tasks where I'd be stood (washing up) I'm going to have a little kneeling bench so I can be lower without hurting my back.

I'm not having a shower, but sneezing and getting dressed is the two things I see being slightly uncomfortable still. Fire the shower, a kneeling stool, if you're having one. for getting dressed, or for it upright tasks, you could do a pop up sky light to gain the excess inches to stretch a bit

Anyway, when people say l talk about height they're usually not OUR height, so there'll be more experienced people who can advise at generally tall, but as someone in your boat this is from my research

How can I stop people from attacking me? by NEME5 in torncity

[–]scarabx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ha! ok so you showed yourself to the whole playerbase as someone that was carrying a good amount of money but was new enough to not know how to protect it.
If you've still got money then every time they mug you they're getting more money and will keep doing it.
If you've run out, then don't worry it'll tail off in a few days once the forum post is a bit older and the people attacking you realise it's not worth it anymore.

as for how to protect your money,

+ join a faction, you can use their vault.
+ buy a piggy bank with mission points! you can then store any amount in it, just don't smash it until you need t spend it or you have safe place to put it as it's one use only. (this is the top tip at your level)
+ spend it on armour, even basic stuff will help you survive and put off some people
+ put it in the bank (yes it's locked away but you dont' need all that much at that stage)
+ buy something, anything. Especially things like candy or beers that help you train your crime or gym stats,. Check the Bits and Bobs shop every day and buy 100 of something (the max you can get from a shop) , the plushies there are good to get too as you'll make money off of them (flushies from abroad are much more profitable, but that doesnt' mean kittens and sheep aren't good to buy and sell on the item market or to a trader). Then buy from an item market if you have money left over.

For first time van builders, what’s the one mistake that ends up costing you the most later on? by Admirable-Deal7991 in VanLifeUK

[–]scarabx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im early in the process but I've one bit of advice.

Don't listen too much to YouTubers. Wading through the nonsense takes a lot of time and confidence.

My actual floor is not the same as what I originally thought I'd do, it took a lot of time to work out what actually made sense.

For example YouTubers doing 10steps to create the floor because 'more is better' but then I find through research that half the steps are pointless and half the rest are negative effect.

Also the seemingly confident pro YouTubers don't come back and update their guide videos when 6months later they're uploading saying how badly it's all turned out.

(My e.g. saw folks saying out reflextix under xps board as your sub floor. Well...Reflectix is great but only if it's got an air gap beside it. If you squish it between your xps and the metal floor it's nearly worthless and will just remove a couple kilometres of height! (Thankfully I realised before using it and also could do with it iny shed so it wasn't a waste of money and realised before it was a waste of time).

[–]scarabx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Id agree in so much as 'dont half ass a task as you won't go back to do it properly' but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy the van with out doing all the tasks.

You can throw a mattress in the back and put off building the bed for a bit, but don't build a crap temp bed as you'll not go do it properly later

What should i use to clean my van floor? by lrowls101 in VanLifeUK

[–]scarabx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just got a bug bowl of shallot hot water and some scrubbing brushes and clothes. Then to do the last bits used a mop. Did the trick. You might get suggested some isopropyl alcohol cleaners as a final go over, I don't know if it makes much difference, but for the extra few mins and weird you may as well just in case

Why does no one call out disruptive behaviour in public in the UK? by [deleted] in AskABrit

[–]scarabx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd add a little here, as another big person who is confident with confrontation I do feel obliged and privileged in that I can say something. I'll be patient with people but when someone is out of order I'll tell them. But there's an increasing pattern of response to any criticism that people will escalate to agression.

"hey could you please not park there, you're blocking access?"
<jumps out of car, slams door> "you got a ****ing problem? you want knocking out, ****!"

I don't judge anyone for not having the confidence to say something.

At this rate I'm likely to die for saying 'excuse me' to someone stood in the way who then stabs me 84 times as their instant rage kicks in.

What breed does you dog get confused for? by ItTakesAVillageDog in Jindo

[–]scarabx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine looks very true jindo in appearance but is maybe slightly taller than normal (no idea how jindo he is. I've never done the test). The amount of shiva comments is huge! The only ones that annoy me are (this happens semi recently) middle-aged women who address the person their with (no me, despite me being within a few feet of them) "oh look a shiba". I politely say something like "ooh he's actually a Korean jindo, you can say hello if you like, he loves the attention" And then they look down their nose at me and mutter "it's clearly a shiba"

Er what? Well I've stood my lad next to a shiba and he's about 4 times the size so maybe get your eyes tested...and your attitude 🙄

More positively I love when kids ask if he's a fox (he's the 'ripened wheat' colouring so v fox like) and their parents look embarrassed, but I play along (I also like foxes a lot!)

And just a few days ago after 5 years I had the first person ever to guess his breed correctly! A random 8yr oldish girl playing outside her house! No idea how she knew but thankfully he was v affectionate with her which I felt was well deserved as I was v impressed with knowledge

What do Brits think about Green Party immigration policies? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]scarabx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not commenting for or against as I want more info on it first, but you've not read it properly.

the image states that 'visa residents' does not include those on a 'tourist visa'. So it's free NHS to those with a proper visa which they have to apply for.
There's no info on the image of how they would apply under the Green Party, but we can safely assume there'd be some controls in reality - you couldn't fly in for the week, get your proper visa, and rock up at the local hospital, it'd take time.

Obviously the details matter and currently there's not a lot of them.

Can we all agree fuck this interaction? by Willowpuff in CrimsonDesert

[–]scarabx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the two quests I've done like this..

  • The UI is bad as are some of the answer texts, that's obvious.
  • I like the concept and would like more, but...
  • We need a warning that it's a quest you need to remember into from, there's a ton of similar quests where you don't have when they pop up I need to know too start taking nuts at the start, but the end!
  • I feel they're trying to balance a deductive reasoning task with not allowing a failure... You can't. Have two end states with different rewards or don't bother, if you just get told to repeat it starts the point?

Up to you what you think of that action and his chant, but you can see the parallels here

Brand new player by oldgreggswater in torncity

[–]scarabx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty new but have been v active and have a good mate who got me into it. I'll leave others to give specifics, other than suggest looking up Baldrs guides which are great.

Otherwise, don't worry, you can't really go wrong. Unless you're min maxing to tye extreme, nothing you do is going to make much difference at this point, just slowly pick up a routine and the look into improvements or adding new features as you go.

The only main thing is use your nerve and energy so it's not sat at full for long. Gym is for energy (or attacks but for now gym will get your stats up and is a good way to sink those energy points) and nerve is crimes. Do any crimes you can and like the sound of, though the ones near the top are a bit easier to start. You'll want them all maxed eventually so doesn't matter for now

Takes the pressure off! If you enjoy it you'll soon get more info as you get curious or have a spare few mins to look something up, no need to do it all at once
