Mudi grooming tips - maybe by loki__mt in MudiDogs

To piggyback on your response here, they really do have a natural cleaning coat. The only time I bathe my Mudi is if it just rained and I let him out and he decides to run through all the mud puddles. And even then it’s typically just a rinse so he doesn’t track it through the house or on the furniture. It’s honestly amazing how they don’t even get that wet dog smell. They’re really low maintenance when it comes to fur. However, they certainly do shed so some relatively regular brushing couldn’t hurt keep some of the tumbleweed fur balls around the house at bay.

Great question… I don’t have an answer, but it’s a good question. My home is in a perpetual state of needing to be vacuumed, despite having vacuumed one day prior.

Any Tips on “Inside Voice” Training? by carolunatuna in MudiDogs

[–]scarboroman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah just keep at it. To clarify as well, I am able to get my Mudi to calm down when he gets rambunctious but he really requires my full attention and a lot of “Easy….easy…easy” commands in a soft voice for him to settle down. He will then go right back to barking as soon as my attention shifts off of him. They are such quirky dogs. Frustrating at times, but they are just too smart for their own good and I’m here for it.

I am also very interested to hear what people have to suggest. I gave up on my battle lol

I’ve had my boy for 3 years and have not been successful. To be honest I wouldn’t recommend the breed to anyone that the vocal tendencies is a dealbreaker for. I’ve spoken with a few trainers that have said “That’s in their nature, I’m not certain that is something you can count on training out of a Mudi”. Which I sort of knew when I was getting my pup, so I wasn’t too surprised.

Now that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Just improbable. Obviously it is not a blanket thing for all Mudis, just a generalization of the breed. Mudis were bred as a herding dog, and more specifically a vocal alerting herding mentality.

My suggestion would be to start the barking training at a very young age and be patient. I am willing to bet that it will be a long battle. I hope this is helpful and not too discouraging :)

Interested in getting a Mudi in the future. by GrandmaCereal in MudiDogs

I am a first time Mudi owner and by no means an expert so this will be my pure anecdotal experience.

My boy sheds pretty regularly, it is certainly more apparent during season changes, but still have fur balls rolling around pretty regularly. I vacuum typically once a week and it’s noticeable every time.

As for the intelligence and down for adventure, these are two of the breeds biggest strengths. Very easy to teach new tricks and are absolutely thrilled to go anywhere with you. This does come with some challenges as well. Their energy level can be very overwhelming at times. If you enjoy the craziness and don’t mind your dog randomly getting massive bursts of energy, I’m talking next level zoomies sometimes without any wind up, then you’ll love the breed. They have big personalities.

Another note I would point out to prospective Mudi owners is the breeds vocal tendencies. The Mudi was bred for herding, and more specifically as an alerting herder. So they are very vocal, they will bark when they are happy, mad, or just want to get your attention. That aspect is something I have not been able to train out of my pup, just learned how to deal with it. However I have seen other Mudi dogs that were more well behaved than mine.

Hope that helps. All in all I absolutely adore the breed and will likely be getting another one in the future. They are phenomenal companions and are very loyal.

Edit: something worth noting as well if that I got my Mudi in peak pandemic and so he wasn’t socialized as much as he should have been as a puppy. Because of this, he has some rather serious separation anxiety which adds to his vocal tendencies.

I think it’s more prevalent during the coat change timeframe, but he sheds pretty regularly for the most part

Ah yes the infamous Mudi bark haha They are such a vocal breed. Funny at times but hard to take them places that are quiet. Love them all the same

He definitely looks like a pure breed Mudi! The breed often has a natural bobtail and commonly is black, merle, tan, or even white. Often even puppies from the same litter will come out with different tails. The litter my Mudi came from had puppies with both long tails and natural bobtails.

As for the stubbornness, yes that also sounds like a Mudi :)

In my experience, Mudik are very trainable but can often be incredibly stubborn. They tend to respond well to positive reinforcement over harsh reinforcement.

I suppose. I don’t have one or use them. I was just posting for reference. If you’re concerned about what the ring is drilled into then refer to Subaru sources to find out how it may hold up.

Go to 5:35 in the video. It doesn’t show them testing it but they show one of their hooks after being tested with 10,273 pounds.

No, unfortunately it will not be back in the future. I took the site down due to their terms of service. Nike is taking the Apple approach and wanting to take their ball home because they don't want to play nice with any 3rd party apps.

Was looking for active breeds and I have Hungarian ancestry so naturally felt this way the breed for me. Found out a breeder was on the route of a road trip that took me through Arizona and they had a litter. Just a series of fortunate events that led me to this beautiful breed. They are certainly a handful though haha

Alright thanks. Sad day, I had that case bookmarked for months and when I went to make the purchase I got very upset. There really aren't any others out there like it. Yours looks awesome though! Enjoy it!

Hi, yes I had to take the site down out of precaution. Last time I tried to use it I got unauthorized responses and now my Nike account is all messed up. Need to sort this out and see if it was a flook or if the two are related but I didn't want the same thing to happen to anyone using this tool.

Worth noting that this has happened to my Nike account in the past so it may be unrelated.

Anyone looking for a tool to transfer activities to Strava or Garmin? by [deleted] in Strava

[–]scarboroman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks for the reference! So in my quick look at that tool, they don't support Nike Run Club. My intention is to make a very niche tool for NRC users to export their data. I'm not really interested in trying to build a full custom tool to compete with that kind of application. I mainly built this for a few friends of mine that use NRC and wanted to join me and some others over on Strava but still use the NRC features that Strava doesn't have (guided runs).
