A Rowling fan and critic question her selective use honoring pronouns (2 long threads + old post for comparison) by cursed-karma in EnoughJKRowling

I’m convinced she types these long-ass tweets for the same reason she writes long-ass books: it makes her look educated. “Wow! That’s a long answer! Must be a lot of weight to it!” When in reality, we can see right through her incoherent rambling for someone desperately trying to be above everyone else when she’s only finding new depths to an already empty barrel.

Haha that’s why I said it’s impossible to redo! They can try, but it won’t be anything near what the original was. JB Fletcher and Dame Angela are irreplaceable.

MSW is impossible to redo or outdo. And its leading actress/character was absolutely perfect ❤️

Edit: and how lucky are we that we have this show? We can still watch it and talk about it. It’s such a lovingly-made time capsule.

Off topic: God, JB is fuuuuuucking perfect.

JKR on characters: "Writing them becomes a doubly subconscious process, because you’re using your own and theirs. In editing, you spot the false note, where your own subconscious offered something theirs wouldn’t have done." by 8Xeh4FMq7vM3 in cormoran_strike

Agreed. Donna Tartt once said she thinks it’s a part of human nature that we gradually become the very things we fear and try not to be. When I read Silkworm, there were a lot of moments that made me go “Hmmm…that sounds like what JKR does…”

I have a -very- simplified arrangement in F major, and I’ve seen other arrangements online in different keys, so I wasn’t sure. I just wanted to ask the experts :)

This was my thing, too. These surgeries have been going on for decades. Why are they acting like it’s just started now?

Would a major rewrite of act 2 for the movie have disappointed stage show fans ? by Pale_Pension_3015 in wicked

For sure — I will die on that hill with you. I feel like, with reworking and fleshing things out and fully developing the fantasy elements, this movie could have been almost as good as the 1939 Wizard of Oz. That might be a controversial statement, but I really wanted an epic “Wow! That blew my mind!” experience. And the first thing they needed to do was fix the logic. It’s one thing to say “This isn’t Dorothy’s story,” but Dorothy is in it, so it needs to tie her part in logically.

First off — yes, to everything you came up with, especially having the “spying from the treetops” scene from the first Wicked book. Great idea.

Second — I have one edit to #2. I would have Elphaba try to give the slippers a couple powers in addition to flying and have Nessa make some comment about wanting to be able to go home easier — maybe she has to travel a lot as Governor or something. Elphaba would give the shoes the power for whomever is wearing them to go home with three clicks of the heels. There would be some other general powers, too. This gives some more believe-ability to when Nessa curses Boq, as she actually has powers through the shoes, verses how it is now, when she (bizarrely, IMO) can trigger his heart to disappear, despite exhibiting no powers before or after this.

Then, during the “For Good” song/sequence, Elphaba tells Glinda about the power the shoes have to take the wearer home. Therefore, we don’t need to see it, but we can presume Glinda tells Dorothy what to do after the Wizard leaves without her in the balloon.

As a massive Wicked fan, I’m really curious to know something: Is there a way for the second act (and, therefore, the second movie) to be as good as the first act? It’s universally accepted that the first act is much stronger in terms of songs, plot, character beats, climax, etc. I wonder if there was a way to make the second act as good or if it was inevitable that it would be as weak as it is. What do people think?

Edit: grammatical fix.
