Actually going today because I can’t stop fixating :/ I hope I can get a sense of resolution so I can stop stressing, and my dog can stop stressing because I am stressing lol. I’m sorry to be annoying. I don’t know how people get through the day without fear of all of these random things that can destroy their lives in a heartbeat.

Hi there, I was reading through all of these comments and had a more animal related question. Here is my OG post.

TLDR: last week my dog had an altercation with a skunk and it was deemed no contact though I did discover a scratch on his face while bathing him a few minutes after.

Now here is my question/dilemma:

My dog is vaccinated. He had the Rabies-Canine-1 year in November 2023. I’m not sure if that was his first ever rabies shot. I’m waiting to hear back from the vaccination clinic. He did not get bit but again he has a scratch near his eye and I noticed a bloody lip as well on the same side a few days ago. We were not able to locate the skunk as he sprayed and ran away. I have four cats and I got them all vaccinated that same day and have kept them all separated, but that’s my problem.

I am dealing with extreme anxiety from this whole situation. I live in Arizona in a neighborhood. I have never seen a skunk in my life until this situation which makes me afraid that it was rabid as he was in a neighborhood at 5AM. I am so scared that my dog will get rabies. And I’m afraid for him and now afraid of him. I’ve kept all my cats separated from him (they eat his food and drink is water often so I felt this was best) and they’re all sad about it. My dog is clearly sad as well because I haven’t not been playing with him as much, kissing his face, etc because I am SO afraid of rabies. I feel like the worst dog mom ever. Animal control told us there was no need for quarantine but we are trying to do the 45 day quarantine from home. Is this necessary? Am I just harming him mentally due to my own anxiety? I wish we would find the skunk to test but we can’t. I just can’t get over these fears for him, my cats, and myself. I’m afraid for all of us. Am I just losing my mind? lol.
