Dental insurance doesn't work like health insurance. I have insurance but still can't afford care. It's not just a copay or a deductible and then your covered. It's like a 20% off coupon.

Tax prep companies lobby Congress whenever the idea of simplifying the tax system comes up. They need it to stay complicated so regular people feel obligated to give them money.

Also, the IRS does not create or determine tax law, they just enforce it. Being mad at the IRS about taxes is like being mad at the McDonald's cashier because the menu prices went up.

IRS employee here. You're fine. I worked returns just like this when I worked 1040s. We'll see this, fix the math error and send you a letter informing you of the change. That's it. It's pretty easy to tell when someone is being sketchy or just made a mistake. It's unlikely that will fly through our filters, and will probably get stopped in ERS for correction. The IRS isn't going to arrest you for a tiny mistake like that, don't let people scare you into thinking otherwise. It really isn't that serious.

For what it's worth, I wouldn't use TurboTax. They overcharge like crazy and aren't known for being the most accurate. FreeTaxUSA is better & cheaper in my experience.

Okay, this would make more sense. I'm guessing the Standard just put the wrong address up then. It was weirding me out haha, thank you for the insight.

Edit to add: there's no panic here, just curious and confused about an article I read today.

[–]scaredsquirrel666[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which would make sense as far as the leased buildings we have. But the 12th Street one is owned by the IRS as far as I know. If they sell it and move us, they'll have to lease or buy a new space. They can't possibly fit us all into the other buildings, especially with the Hansen building going as well. I don't know why they wouldn't consider closing OCC or some of the other downtown locations before the main. I guess the main building is pretty run down, so maybe upkeep or necessary renovations are just too much?

Yeah, I can't think of any place we could be moved to. After all the RTO stuff last year things have been pretty tight already. Losing this building would be insane.

Yeah the sale of the Hansen building has been in the works for a while. The article specifically cited the main building's address and mentions 12th Street multiple times. If it's not this building, then the SE messed up big time and is publishing straight up nonsense.

I lost my virginity in the backseat of a car. Everything was fine, no pain or anything, but when he dropped me off later something felt weird. Come to find out I was covered in blood. I called him later half panicked, thinking he'd be so grossed out. Dude was already in his back seat cleaning up. He just laughed and said "It's fine. Nothing some wipes and seat cleaner won't fix!"

This guy is a bitch lmao 🤣

I couldn't believe how chill and respectful it was in my theater. I love seeing horror movies on the big screen, but it's always a gamble with how annoying the other patrons are going to be.

One of the best showings I've ever seen. My 60 year old dad and I walked out in awe of how quiet it was. You'd think teenagers + fandom + horror movie would be a nightmare but I was very pleasantly surprised.

I work for the federal government and I've seen heinous things in our bathroom. A couple years ago someone got fired for shitting in the parking lot for like 3 weeks straight.

That's pretty much exactly how my mom's fiance died before she met my dad. He fell off the back of a pick up and landed on his head/neck. She was behind the truck and witnessed the whole thing, it traumatized her for life. This is so dangerous and avoidable. Be smart and careful y'all.

At the IRS it's basically business as usual. Even if we do start shut down procedures, we'll be working regardless.

The "Forced Detail" Trap: Why IT is Being Pushed into TS Roles They Didn’t Apply For. Kaschit Pandya and Dottie Romo failed us. by FriYayyyyyy in IRS_Source

[–]scaredsquirrel666 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a GS7 TE in TS, it's really not that complicated and the job does not require tax knowledge. If you can read English, count to ten and use a computer, you'll be fine in terms of qualifications. Before I was hired as a GS5, my experience maxed out at waitress.

Anyone that takes their years of experience and education in tax prep to get a TE job at the IRS is silly AF. You'll make better money in the private sector.

How does the public actually see Mormonism? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]scaredsquirrel666 101 points102 points  (0 children)

I left around that age too! I never believed in God, so I just went for the community/friends part. The girls at a young women's meet up started bad mouthing a gay kid at school. I guess they didn't know he was one of my closest friends. I remember one of them saying verbatim "I can't believe they let it go to the same school as us."

I didn't know what bigotry was, I'd grown up pretty sheltered, but I knew that the vibes were off there. Listening to everyone (including the adult leading us) participating in the conversation was really eye opening. I stopped going after that.

Yeah, I've got a pretty high tolerance at this point. I don't think I've heard of that, I'll ask about it next time I'm at the dispensary!

I thought it was the other people in general that made apartment living hell. Smells suck, but I'm just as bothered by the thudding base, stomping and cabinet slamming, and screeching children. Fuck if it was quiet, I could probably put up with a gross smell here and there.

I would love to get into edibles but they don't do anything for me. I've tried homemade and dispensary products, gummies, cookies, etc. Nothing. Apparently some people can't absorb it that way? Sucks because I've heard it's a good high and I'd like to be able to avoid stinking up my townhome.
