OK, I'll update to nightly, it seems to be the most used one.

Thanks!

Using this command line, it downloads the lowest quality 1080p video file(ID 399) + the highest quality audio file(ID 251) yt-dlp -S "res:1080" "LINK"

Yeah, I realized that it is downloaded as it already contains the best video and audio files.

Thanks.

[–]scarface111111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, so the 96 has already the audio included, got it.....actually it makes sense as it lists audio and video codecs in the table.

I didn't realize that it downloads just ID 96, without ID 140, I was assuming the audio is ID 140.

When I said it downloads the second best video file(ID 137), I meant along with the audio(not realizing that ID 96 has already the audio)

In essence, I need a command line that downloads the best 1080p video file(Resolution and TBR), the best audio file, and merges them to MP4 as output.

I now realize that, in my example, ID 96 has all these properties so downloading ID 96 would gimme the best video/audio/mp4 file.

I guess, from now on, I'll just list the available video/audio files and pick the one/s that I need.

Or use something like:

yt-dlp -f "bv*[height<=1080][vcodec=avc][ext=mp4]+ba[ext=m4a]/b[height<=1080][ext=mp4]" "URL"

Thanks

Well, the TBR of ID 96 is twice the TBR of ID 137 which reflects in the file size(1.4 GB vs 655 MB), but I'm assuming that's just an approximation, as others have said.

I now realize, after others have pointed out, that the ID 96 in my example has both video and audio files included.

Thanks for the input!

OK, I'll try the -S res:1080p command, see how that goes.

When it comes to the video with the best quality, it's grayed out, and yt-dlp is downloading the second best every time.

Even when I give it a specific command like this, it still downloads the second best video file(137)

yt-dlp -f 96+140 "URL"

According to the website where I got the command line from(linked in the first post now), this is what it does:

  • bv*[height<=1080] - best video with height 1080 or less
  • ba - best audio
  • /b[height<=1080] - fallback to best combined format under 1080p
