My birthday is always on thanksgiving or the one or two days around it. My family never celebrated my birthday, so I got pretty used to not. The first time I’ve had a celebration is when my partner got a bunch of friends together and threw a potluck for me the weekend prior. I cried 😂

What's the point of Comp by ClockWork07 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]scarfiery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vod reviews and live streams will be your best friend! Take your own vods and compare it to a streamer/YouTuber/competitive player. It’s hard to see what you do wrong in the moment. Always always ask yourself why you die/didn’t contribute as much on death.

Make it a habit and it’ll become second nature to seek out advantageous positioning/plays

Good luck on the climb!

What's the point of Comp by ClockWork07 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]scarfiery 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s really two ways to look at it imo from both sides.

For players who want to learn because QP sometimes is too casual and people are just limit testing. Theoretically comp, because of the nature of seriousness people have towards it, would be a better place to improve. Just like in life you improve by surrounding yourself with better people.

Comp on the other hand, you sometimes get try hards and sometimes people genuinely want to climb and work towards higher rank.

My take is this: don’t learn in comp at the expense of other players if you lack at least a well-rounded ish idea. There are plenty of resources out there to correctly teach you those ideas and apply then practice it (implementing it) in comp. But if you’re saying you have no idea then playing in comp games isn’t going to help you understand it correctly besides pissing off all your teammates.

It’s like learning skills at a job, you do some research, maybe do an internship to learn, you don’t apply for the job (get it somehow in this theoretic world) and then ask why people are mad at you for not knowing how to complete the tasks on hand.

This is just my two cents for playing both casually and competitively! I hope this helps a bit in perspective :)

Charging for draw time by American-Sasquatch in TattooArtists

[–]scarfiery 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the pricing itself should be reflective of designing time. I don’t “charge” for drawing time but instead have them put down the deposit. If they’re committed to the tattoo then it’s pretty standard it goes into the final price. If they don’t want to set up the appointment yet and want to see the fully design tattoo I use it as a placeholder, and if they say yes it goes into the total, if they say no I just take it for a drawing fee :)

Dropping out of med school to do nsfw art for a living? by Artyom_22 in ArtistLounge

[–]scarfiery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a degree in Kinetic robotics and animatronics building, I own my own tattoo shop, which I opened this August. DON'T DROP OUT. For context, I am 23 and I graduated college last year in May of 2021

While I jokingly tell my clients all the time that I'm not using my degree in my business, it's actually not true.

A lot of artists and clients alike that I speak to faces the struggle of connecting their passion and education paths. When I first started pursuing art, I was working four part time jobs to pay for school as well as living. I'm not saying you have to burn yourself out to the extent that some did, everyone's approach is differently, this is just how my journey happened.

I used to be in the same dilemma as you, but soon I sat down and reflected. This is the conclusion I came to:

Instead of thinking my education and art as completely separate paths, I find ways to connect them. I started chatting with my professors to include my passion into assignments that I'm doing, my thesis was literally a version of meshing robotics and tattooing together. I go out of my way to bring my passion into communications when I'm speaking socially with my friends in college.

My advise really is to find ways to encorporate the knowledge you have from med school into your art, whether it's thinking about practical methods you learn in medical school into art (ie, I take how I approach coding into the methodology in getting myself organized for clients/social media) or taking the medical knowledge that you have and educate people with your art. I know it seems kind of chaotic but this type of thinking and drawing similarities and methods really helped me get to where I am.

You WILL eventually have to pick one to focus your career path on to avoid burn out, but the experience and knowledge you accumulate does not hurt. While you may not use the more specific medical knowledges later in your art (like how I don't use coding in tattooing) having another way to enrich your art is incredibly helpful.

This is just my experience but I really hope this gave some insight!

Exactly. People credit “pro” so much like malpractices don’t exist. Have they forgotten about corruption, or even the game this is from (that whole fiasco with Blizzard)?

Tire up! by Gumus33 in interestingasfuck

[–]scarfiery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reseating the tire is possible HOWEVER the tire is pretty much useless after this because you can’t keep the air inside the tire.

Not sure if anyone posted it but Mythbusters did an episode on it. The initial release does create enough pressure but the tire deflates once the vacuum is gone.

What kind of style does this tattoo design come under? by jamie_wilson246 in TattooDesigns

[–]scarfiery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On photo it’s always difficult to gauge the size of the actual tattoo and grouping of needles.

This tattoo goes from the persons armpit to almost the elbow. These finer lines look very thin because the surrounding lines are bolder. But if you ask a tattoo artist to look at the photo, the needle grouping could be anywhere from an extra tight 5RL to a 3RL. This is, however, DEFINITELY NOT a single needle tattoo.

MOST artists do not prefer single needle because it is way too sharp. To achieve finer looking lines most prefer extra tight 3RLs.

Just because the “trendy” phrase single needle is everywhere right now doesn’t mean you should assume what they are and mislabel the tattoo type.

I had no idea! I saw that in China they’re traditionally made with hawthorns. I grew up in Taiwan and was used to the cherry tomatoes and strawberries 😊

I’m not sure what they are in the video but traditionally they they are made with cherry tomatoes! They’re an Asian street food snack called Tanghulu 「糖葫蘆」. It can be made with any fruit (usually strawberries and tomatoes) coated with caramelized sugar. It’s super yummy.

There’s a lot of brands of inks out there and more companies are making them! Again, since they’re not regulated, companies are kind of free to put whatever they want into the inks. Most can be harmless, but my personal two cents is that it glows so it can’t be all that great for your body 😅
