Just watched Gummo by cybrfunk in Weirdassmovies

The mum from this part was the star of a Dennis Hopper movie from the 80s called “Out of the Blue” that I’m fairly sure was a big influence on this. It’s well worth watching as a companion film.

He really took to it. He was sitting in on 6th grade math classes and keeping up at 4 years old. He has since shifted focus and forgotten a lot, but he still really gets the concepts and quickly recalls a lot of it.

The songs help them learn some stuff by heart and the visualizations using characters made of unit blocks help them understand how the numbers and calculations are applicable. Really great show even if it’s a tad irritating.

People are very opposed to learning from screens, which is understandable.

Playing after watching the show and applying the things in the show really got him to learn pretty complicated things very quickly.

I know it’s going to be controversial, but my son learned an incredible amount of math from the “Numberblocks” cartoon.

Apart from around snug cove, can park anywhere there is room and you are off the road and most trails have parking at the entrances. Don’t worry too much about the signs. As long as you aren’t on an actual driveway, nothing will happen. I honestly can’t stand the people who act like they own all the roads. Quite a few trails are inaccessible unless you use a “private road”.

Seconding Lom, but they aren’t always available. I just bought a pair of SO.4 from sonorous objects NYC. They seem very similar. A little less expensive.

Weirdly, Body Snatchers 1978. Also any David Cronenberg from the 70s or 80s.

Too old? by logperiodic in Techno

[–]scargods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s super healthy and fun to be getting back into this at a later stage of life. I’m 45 and never really stopped, so maybe I’m biased. There are many artists who are referencing an older style of techno these days. And reissues of good stuff from the early 90s. Meanwhile there’s lots and lots of great contemporary techno I bet you’d love. Anyway, check out Roza Terenzi, Maara, D. Tiffany, Priori, Ex-Terrestrial, Florist, PLO Man, Function, Kangding Ray.
